electrolyser- a lategame "airtank"

I think it would be pretty cool to be able to perform deeper dives without the neccesity to bringing a submarine or 500kg of oxygen tanks with you- once it's not necessary for game balance. I think it would be an interesting idea to be able to craft (perhaps using something found in the deep precursor base, or just gathered in one of the deep biomes) a power-based oxygen generator.

An electrolyser is (I'm simplyfying slightly) a device that splits H2O into oxygen and hydrogen. This could be implemented as a- for example- cell-powered air tank, using up 1% of the cell's power every 3 seconds for a dive length of 300 seconds (non-stackable).

The game might not address batteries of anything but held tools, for the player. Charge fins only charge the equipped tool, and I can't think of anything that interacts with inventory automatically. I'd bet that that kind of basic change would touch a LOT of systems, raising a lot of potential interactions and bugs, not to mention the effort required to add a new system.

And the payoff? Something that doesn't really change gameplay at all in 99%+ of the game area, since you can just bring a minisub and refill inside it, almost anywhere.

I'd say it's not worth it.

    Maybe eventually after 1.0?

It's not a bad idea, but I agree that adding batteries to an air tank would be an adjustment of gameplay that may be a bit much.

The most feasible thing I can think of is if such a tank would require the player to move above a certain speed to replenish oxygen (like the charge fins only charge above a certain speed). Standing still or going slowly would have the air tank work like a regular air tank.

I'd kind of like loads of things to be built in the really late game that are made with Ion crystals, Kyanite, diamonds; all of the hardest things to find, and the fragments should be really hard to find as well. These things should be harder to make than the rocket, specifically for making the end-game as easy and awesome and satisfying as possible. Maybe a Cyclops upgrade that burns any Larvae that attach to it, or a PRAWN suit with unlimited propulsion. I just really like the idea of having items harder to make than the rocket that just make the game so easy, as an alternative to ending the game with the rocket.

I considered it before posting, but I figured they simply won't do it if the tech doesn't support it :P

It all depends on how they coded it.

Or maybe just change the intensity of the propulsion and the rate of recharging it. If the propulsion is greater, as for the recharge rate of it, the PRAWN would actually get itself closer and closer to the surface.
