CTD when returning to Safe Shallows base

Basically, I've gotten a fair bit into the game now, about 8 hours in I think on this play through and I'm experiencing the same issue I had on my last playthrough and well I don't want to resort to the batch-file delete solution because that just screwed my game over more (thus the restart) by suddenly duplicating terrain features.
So in short whenever I want to go back to my base and/or lifepod 5 the game CTDs after a fair bit of loading/lag.
