So yeah, Ive got about 48 hours on my play through. Ive been having a little bit of an issue when using the cyclops sometimes when just full-throttling it back to base, or any location for that matter. the game would start to get pretty choppy until it would lock up entirely then crash, or if i stopped moving in time the game would freeze for a little bit then i could quickly save before a crash. this was about 24 hours in the playthrough

WELL, now its completely unplayable. Driving, walking, or swimming in any direction i seem to go the game gets extremely choppy then freezes after moving only 5 feet. i cant return to base, i cant continue exploring, i just cant play now and its infuriating. bad part is i cant offer a crash report cause the game freezes in a way that i have to use task manager to end the program. Thus, no crash report to share. Its even breaking steam when it crashes, making me have to end the steam process cause it thinks subnautica is still playing, so it refuses to launch the game twice, or close since its "still running" even though theres no process anymore.

Ive tried the deletion of cellcache/octreescache thats a common suggestion, ive tried the -force-d3d9 launch option, drivers updates, windows updates. everything i have is up to date. i really dont know what to do here unless theres some OTHER cache i need to clear or delete... i REALLY want to keep playing. i REALLY do i enjoy this game a lot but this is starting to really make me regret buying the game.

Try doing a full cache clean. See the first line of my sig ▼ down there. Does that help?

There's a video in that post for that reason. I'm going to re-work the post in the near future to make it simpler, though.

welp. This is either something thats a "well of course thats where you look you idiot" moment or a very common misconception... the reason NOTHING has been working is because ive been looking in the wrong folder cause no source ive seen UNTIL that video specifically told me to go appdata>saved games>slot00x, ive been in undamageddata this entire time. so you want something to re-work that post with, try the file path you SHOULD be in as a start. lol.

its fixed the problem, albeit just enough, still get choppy gameplay though, its just stopped the freezing crash.
Steam>common>subnautica>appdata>saved games>slot00x thats where the stuff is. not "subnautica>undamageddata" undamaged was just the only place i could find the spoken about cache folders. so i was there the entire time so anything i did didnt work

It's actually (by default, anyways) \Program Files (x86)\Steam\steamapps\common\Subnautica\SNAppData\SavedGames\slot00xx

You're correct that there's apparently a separate cache in SNUnmanageddata ? Not sure what that does or if clearing it will have any effect on your game (if you find something out there, let us know!).

EDIT: Updated the guide to reference specifically where to look.

Well i can tell you deleting that stuff honestly doesnt do anything, doesnt stop lag, doesnt make the game unstable (to my knowledge from doing so myself) which is why me doing these "fixes" didnt work. since that file location i guess isnt directly referenced with the save files it has little to no affect.

Either way, this is a really fun game, i just hope this whole "cache clearing" thing doesnt become a perminant thing, its just a little "immersion breaking" that it resets all explored wrecks and such. i dont mind the resources returning but the aurora being reset, wrecks, prolly the escape pods too having items reset is like i said, a bit immersion breaking. but its not a major thing. if you've explored and gotten the blueprints from most the important wrecks its not like you need to revisit them. im going to put the title of this post as solved if i can. maybe some people will be able to see it
