normal Subnautica unplayable after installing VRmode on amd for oculus dk1 crashes while loading

It literally takes 2-3 times starting and crashing it to even get to a black screen with music and then it hangs.
Was working just fine before I installed the oculus and updated the drivers for my amd r9 200.
updated sound drivers as well. Followed every step in the troubleshooting guide. Waiting 5 minutes for it to load. tried -vrmode none
tried -force-d3d9
absolutely nothing works to fix it.
Also tried both experimental branch and normal branch
Can you guys help? I feel like it was a waste of $20 at this point
