How about implementing a Breeding program into the game add a breeding tank and some kind of gadget the player uses to collect dna from fish, players could inject the dna into the tank and make a new fish from a combination of other fish. maybe even have some kind of menu to choose from on the breeder tank ( which would then show which dna is required from whatever fish to make the new selected fish )... This would really send the player to all corners of the ocean exploring all depths collecting the required DNA.
it doesnt have to influence or have anything to do with the storyline, but it would extend gameplay a whole damn lot for some side fun action. not to mention the extra fragments needed to hunt down to make the tank, the collecting gadget etc etc ...
It could make for a really cool DLC after release...
