Alien Comeback In 1.3 Is Still Possible

Uncle Elric's little story
I have no problem with the slow death system and here is why. Me and a friend were playing on Misfire's server as aliens on Eclipse with the Comp Core hive against a highly rush oriented commander. They would hit us quite often and once we thought we had them beat back a bit, most of us went out to help the gorges take hives and towers. Unfortunatly, there was a hole in our defense at Comp Core and before we knew it, we'd lost the hive. Most of us were too far away to get back to healing so we all died. However, one gorge, Paradox, and my friend Joe Cartoon, a skulk, managed to get back to the defense/offense grouping at Comp Core to prevent from dying. For some reason, the marines just stopped trying as much once they got the hive down. Paradox just saved up cash while Joe kept killing anything that tried to finish them off. Paradox got Comp Core building back up shortly to stop the timer, waddled back to Eclipse where our offense tower farm was still untouched, and started putting that hive up while the other was still 1/2 done. Our main hive finished, we spawned in shortly there after, the second hive came online not too far after, and we got fades/lerks and pretty much finished them off. Now, it was against a not very good commander (who failed to siege us or secure Maintainance or even one resource tower during our down time) but regardless, we came from 0 hives with only two people left huddled around towers, to 3 hives and hunting them down in every vent they hid in.
There's nothing wrong with the timer system. It takes at least a minute to die from it, and if you have any existing towers left, you have a point to retreat to and rebuild. You can't just hide in a vent anymore. If you have absolutely nothing left, I don't see any way to win anyway. But there's the story. Massive comebacks are still possible in 1.3. Read em and weep. And here I was telling the two guys to just kill themselves, there's no way we could win. Never again shall I do that.
Misfire was playing marine at the time (poor guy, that commander of yours was just awful) if you want validation of that story.

so, with the timer - theres no way you can win as the only alien.
with out the timer - theres some kind of magical thing that happens that lets you make a come back ..?
I don't get it.
Elric is right on about this. If your a lone alien, with no structures left - how can you justify making the game longer?
What's to stop sending a "couple HAs to your DCs, or closed off a hive" with out the timer?
I see the same end game in both scenarios, except one is much faster then the other.
Agreed.
Joe either is godlike, or the marines are coming in one by one (which is really unintelligent). And the marines are not killing the def chambers and new hives? The commander is not doing the proper scan sweeping when the timer stopped. They were just not aware of a probable come back.
I've been in Marine and killed 3 hives with 3 HAs with HMGs and welder (including me) and it was, shall i say, extremely obvious that you should scout in hive areas if you hear the ticking stop. And that's how we stopped 3 building hives and won the game. And I didn't feel like I earned that win. I feel so dirty and low.
I think it should be 2 minutes or maybe even 3...
Is 3 minutes really such a long time? It iwll prevent players from hiding too long and it wil give time to make a comeback.
This new countdown is a blessing. In another game, both the Marines and Aliens had totally destroyed eachother, the marines losing thier comm chair and all structures at main spawn and the aliens losing all thier hives. I was on marines and the beginning of the end was when the 3 remaining marines destroyed the final hive and alien building. But there was still 2 aliens alive, and they just ran through the vents (where marines in heavy armor cant follow). Now and then they would start up another hive and we would destroy it, or course we were all parasited, which made it that much harder. We had a HAHMG marine, a HAGL marine(me) and a marine with HA and regular rifle who walked behind us welding us. This went on for so long. Eventually the welding marine fell to his death in the nameless Hive on an attack. The process continued with us now splitting up to scan for new hives. Killed a hive or two more every now and then reloading at the armory we had secured at the top of the mess hall stairs, thank god. Eventually they got a hive up and we lost the game. But we had clearly won it, the only thing robbing us of our win was the fact the aliens, though all hives and buildings totally destroyed, could hide where it was impossible for us to follow until they could finally get a hive by us. It was lame. Now if we had the 1.03 in effect it would have easily been a marine win. I personally love the countdown, because it gets rid of those lamers who run and hide in the vents to prolong the game just to be dumbasses.
Yes, but have you seen marines rush so fast where gorges only got enough resources to build one DC and nothing else? It is completely Terrible.
I cant fathom how you could see that it was a sure fire marine win, You obviously had no way to build anything, all you were doing was wandering around trying to stop the aliens from killing you, You had no possible CHANCE, you only had what equipment that you had managed to get before your comm chair died, and you were running around trying to keep each other alive. Whereas, the Aliens, have the ability to rebuild from total devastation, unlike marines who once lose the command chair, just wander around hoping to do some damage. If they managed to get one hive up, and spawn even 3 kulks before you killed it, then possibly those 3 skulks could go on and build a hive each (Resource allowing) and then your in a world of **obscenity**. Shoudl the situation be reversed and say 3 aliens (2 fades, 1 gorge) were wandering around clearing out any comm chair that was dropped, they could easily send the gorge to a hive, rebuild and get reinforcements up to help clear out the marines, whereas you had no chance of getting ANY backup, equipment, defences, ANYTHING.
No CC means marines have lost. They dont have ANY chance to rebuild, they are just wasting time. Aliens always have a chance to rebuild (well maybe not now in 1.03) To me, its assbackwards, taking away the possiblity of a comeback from those who could possibly, and not from those who havent a chance in the world.
