[Crash] Crash while the game is loading up [5.4.4 I think?]

Hello! So yesterday when I tried to boot up Subnautica it crashed while loading. Each time I try to play it, it crashes at "Loading Essentials 90%". The game was playing just fine the day before which is the thing that puzzles me most. I tried uninstalling and reinstalling and that didn't work. I even used the "-force-d3d9" launch option. Tried updating my video drivers, and even started a new game. None of these things have worked. I've been away from the game for a while and would love to play and see what new things have been added. So any help with this would be greatly appreciated!

You tried starting a new game, so I'd run a chkdsk on the drive containing Subnautica, and then verify the game files with Steam. If that doesn't fix it, try to track down what changed on your system between the last time you played Subnautica and yesterday.

I am switching over admin privileges right now so that I can run the chkdsk. I just verified the game files and they were good. Gonna try and see what all changed on my pc now.

Windows update history?

So I did the check disk and from what I can tell it all looked fine. Would pasting the info from that help?

The last windows update that I had was the day that it stopped working. Definition Update for Windows Defender - KB915597 (Definition 1.237.510.0) So maybe that did something to it?

If it says "Windows has scanned the file system and found no problems. No further action is required." or similar, then you're fine. If not, yeah paste it over.
You could try rolling back that update just to test, but if it's a definition update, it'd be easier to just temporarily disable Security Essentials - if that fixes it, you've found the problem. If not, the definitions update wasn't the cause.

The check disk was fine then. I tried disabling windows defender but the game still wouldn't load up. When I went into windows updates and tried to uninstall that specific update it wouldn't show up in the list. I even booted up in safe mode and tried to see if it would show up then with no luck. Soooooo idk. Seems like I just might be screwed over.

Since -force-d3d9 didn't work, remove that flag, then re-attach your output_log.txt (it's showing you using d3d9, I want to know if it will do d3d11 without that flag set, as it should)

I seem to be having the EXACT same problem. game crashing and self closing during the loading of essentials
