game freezing after picking up swim recharge fins in lifepod 4

I have been playing the game without any problems for a week or so now and just the other day it would just crash and go back to my desktop if i went near the alien gun island in the cyclops. so i started a new game. everything running fine but then i go to lifepod 4 and find a new item. swim charge fins, and i saved right before picking them up, just in case, and the game freezes about 2 seconds after acquiring them. i reloaded my save several times, it only crashes when i pick up the swim charge fins.

Have you tried any other data modules since the crashing started?
