Do you ever plan on releasing Subnautica on other platforms, like GOG or Origin?

I don't know your current stance on DRM - and it is not up for this thread to talk about it. I ask because looks like many users like to use other platforms instead of Steam for one reason or another. Take GOG for instance - some of their policies attracted quite a number of users, some who left Steam just because of them.

I believe that, if the devs use other platforms besides Steam, Subnautica would reach a greater number of customers.

While it is true that plenty of people use those platforms its hard not to find a pc gamer that at the very least doesn't have steam installed. So saying that not doing it causes them to lose a lot of customers is a bit of a exageration. I don't think its nessecary at all, but it could be nice for those who perfer other platforms I guess. I've personally never used either of those game distributors.

Seeing it on GOG would be nice, but there is not much point in putting Subnautica on origin, since it is on Steam.

Besides, IIRC, doesn't putting it on Origin require dealing with Electronic Arts? Y'know, THOSE bastards?

You're missing out. GOG does a really good job actually patching older games to work with modern OSes. Steam is kind of hit or miss, and usually if it's miss you have to find your own patches. That and I think they do have some older titles Steam doesn't, as well as a decent amount of free titles. I primarily use Steam, but given the choice, I'll pick GOG over Steam, just because I don't like DRM (although Steam doesn't force DRM AFAIK).

In some cases, it does. True, you can run some games of your library without Steam by changing their directory and deleting some archives, but it doesn't happen with all the games. I though GOG primarily because I dislike DRMs, and this platform has a variety of games which you would have a hard time finding anywhere else. I only cited Origin just to use as an example.

Also, here is the method of verifying if a game uses Steam DRM or not.

Y'know, I even have this hypocrisy in me.

"I don't want to have to run Steam to play Subnautica"

Me: Why though...? Steam ain't so bad... I find it quite handy to have that store, profile, community and games all in one place, anywhere, anyplace, anytime...

Me: I don't want to have to run Origin to play Battlefield 1!!!
Me: I don't want to have to require a Battle net login to play Blizzard games <-- I do have that one though xD

    I'll show myself out o/

I just got GOG Galaxy because I was lucky enough to get into the Gwent Beta.
It's already annoying me having more than one service. It'd be okay if GOG stuck to, you know, good old games, but if they're competing directly with Steam it's just a pain in the asscheeks.

Set primary service to auto-start, and relegate the other to on-demand?

Oh I have nothing on auto-start. It's just annoying when I want to play Gwent and automatically go to Steam without thinking.

Ah. Just make it a habit to use the game shortcut instead of launching the platform to find and launch the game.
