Load save starts a new game since a Steam update.

Hi guys, sorry to bother you with my stuff but I have a problem when launching the game this morning.

Double click on Subnautica desktop shortcut (as usual), Steam starts (as usual), it downloads 95 MB of data for update I think, game launched and " Play " clicked (as usual) and then a surprise !

Instead of the " screenshot " you can see on the left side of the Save I have a pixellised red " ? " image on my only Save. I never played experimental or deleting and restart a new game either.

When I load that Save, 8 seconds charging before falling into the water with a titanium rubbish in front of my face just like I was having a new game. Aurora crashed, two first logs appear and lifepod is in my back. That's all.

So goodbye Seamoth, Cyclops and P.R.A.W.N, goodbye semi explored depths, goodbye scanned Sea Emperer and all my f****** stuff...

Sorry for being maybe less impolite that I normally am but I typed that post twice because I don't know where is my draft (noob, I know...) and 2 " saved " things lost is too much for me ^^

If you had the same problem and / or a solution, thanks for taking your time to answer me

Have fun in this amazing game and still work on it ! <3

(P.S : don't find how to report a bug in "safer zone ", please don't kill my post...)

STEAM did an update of their own software yesterday (March 13th), so that was probably the 95Mb download you got.

It sounds like your save got corrupted some how.

Have you tried opening the game from the actual STEAM interface instead of from your Desktop?

Hey ! Thanks for the interest  !

Yes of course. I tried to open it with the shortcut, with the exe from the files storage and from Steam. I can't unfortunately backup Windows...

I installed Subnautica on my laptop (another computer, not that one I'm using now) and it works perfectly by launching the game by Steam even after the update.

I'm trying to save files on my laptop and copy them on that computer, maybe it will fix it.

I leave a comment soon to tell the results !

Yeah, sounds like that particular game-save definitely got corrupted.

I doubt anything but starting a new game will fix the problem.

But, here's hoping..., got my fingers crossed for ya.

    So !

I tryed to backup my laptop game on my computer like said before but there is always the problem. I try to uninstall and reinstall the game : same thing.

Conclusion : FUCK FUCK FUCK FUCK !!!!! I have to do everything another time omg... :'( (40 intense and stressfull playing hours in my butt)

Game is worth it so I will do that.

Anyway thank you DaveyNY for answering me, have fun and a nice day !

    Yer welcome.

Just as a side note, I think the first few days of the game are the best part.

I've started a new game with each update since July and don't regret it at all.
