Infection levels

I am a coward I admit it. I want to do stuff in Subnautica before I'm chased by warpers.

I read on Trello the levels triggered were like this
Normal
Pre-gun
Post-gun
Post Lost River base
Cured

I've never pressed the gun button. Does this mean that I'm not going to be 'infected' for game purposes until I push the button? I don't want to be forced into a chain of events until I'm ready and done everything else I want to do.

Don't worry about it. You can safely hit the button and continue the story at whatever pace you desire without it affecting your game experience. At least for now (and I think mostly in the future because the devs have noted they don't want to force gameplay), getting more infected changes nothing.
