The strangely deserted floating island (and mountain island)

In real life, fish like hanging under floating things for protection from predators, or to eat stuff growing off of it. They seem to do this with reefbacks, but nothing else. There is a very large floating thing in this game, the floating island. And yet, it has no creatures anywhere near it, except the floaters keeping it up. It also has food on it, like the native bulbo tree, making semi-aquatic herbivores viable. And if there are semi-aquatic herbivores, why not semi-aquatic carnivores?

Now take a look at the lava lizard. http://imgur.com/a/Lm5ri
The first time I saw one I wondered "What are you doing all the way down here, with those fancy feet of yours?" Although on closer inspection, it's forelimbs aren't well suited for walking, but at some point in the past, they used to be, so maybe the Lava Lizard is a descendant of a terrestrial or semi-aquatic creature. There is an entrance to the ILZ in the deep reef caves below the floating island, so maybe some portion of the ancestor species started hunting there, or got stuck down there and was forced to evolve into Lava Lizards.

Not sure what the island's surface herbivores would look like (maybe related to sea treaders?), but having some huge, finny crocodiles with this kind of mouth action patrolling the beaches would be neat.

Surface herbivores becoming pests that nibble away at your farms would be a nice, immersive nerf to food plants on a whole, especially if they can monkey their way into your base or subs. It would increase the difficulty in getting and maintaining the edible plants on the island, so rebuffing the lantern fruit a bit might be balanced.
