Phase Gates

<div class="IPBDescription">and logic</div> I have played 3-5 games where phase gates have led to the marines death. A skulk or group of them would rush a hive that we marines had taken over and accidentally go thru the phase gate. The phase would then lead him to our spawn, but past our turret defenses. The phase was built near our spawn locators and our command cen ter so there was nothing we could do. We were out trying to siege one of their hives when one of the commanders yelled for u s to return to base. There was no way we could get back intime. I supposed he should have distressed beacon, but that would have only bought us time. What i'm trying to say is basically, DONT BUILD PHASES NEAR UR SPAWNS AND BUILD THEM NEXT TO TURRETS.

I think your commander was inexperienced. He should have placed turrets in base, any good commander knows that even without phase gates, skulks can easily get past walls of turrets.

I use phase gate networks extensively, but I sometimes place the gate in base anyway. When I do, it's always in plain view of at least two of the base turrets, and there's a clear space around it for the turrets to fire.

When I command, I usually give one marine the latest toys and tell him if he wants the next big upgrade, to guard the base. Even if he is taken out, then he still usually buys the team enough time to get to the nearest phase gate, or for me to log out and finish the attack off.
