Using Tripmines To Your Expense :)

I really see on alot of servers these days that marines try and protect their structures by getting mines and placing them on the ground for the unattentive skulk to get blown off by... I don't really think this is a good thing to do, just after you get your second hive (Wich you can get very easily and quick, if you have a good team of players on your side). So, I'll just tell use my way of using those pretty red laser shooting tripmines to your expenses :o

Well, take a first guess you'll probobly get it, just lewer the pretty marines to beside (or near) the tripmine, ht it with your Fade's acid rocket or Bile Bomb if use have it, i'll blow and kill of any marines that are pretty near to it. Unless they are HA, but it isn't that hard aswell, most of them put more then 3 to keep out the skulks, so you just hit one, then all usually go, and that'll take out a HA.

I just want to show a little example on what a nice tripmine hit can do when it's laying on a ground, near a Armory (silly mawines twipminds are for the smart ones :o)

They built 4 tripmines around the armory and i saw a pack of marines getting their ammo... Know it's not really indepth, (how can it, just shoot it, when they're near, you can even hit the laser part if you want it'll trigger it, and blow up!)

Oh also, i forgot to mention, jumping thru the laser part and not getting hurt I've been doing this alot now a days as skulk, when you see a tripmine or to, run on the part farthest from the mine itself, jump in it, and run back right away, if you jump right thru you'll get hit, if you jump back and run you wont. Just a way i get by without losing my life to take them out when we got no hives

Both fairly well known but useful strategies. If you have celerity as a skulk, it makes setting off mines a lot easier, too. I think the reason mines aren't used too frequently is because of fades constantly setting them off.

Even gorge spit detonates mines .

well, mines are indeed useful for slowing down skulks in the early game, and in the later game they can be useful to lay on the ground in dark places for aliens to trip over. the marines are stupid indeed though if they put them in any place they will be hanging around.

I like created elaborate domino traps with tripmines when I play marines (a lot less than I play Kharaa).

Step 1) Place a mine on a wall in a very Fade-visible area, but in a way so that the area leading to the fade's most probable location is darkened.

Step 2) Place mines along the ground in a string along the darkness towards the likely fade position. Place them far enough that they're not resource-heavy, but close enough they blow each other up (1-1.5 m).

Step 3) Place a cluster of mines (an entire pack) at the end, where the Fade will most likely pop that laser wire from.

When the Fade hits the laser wire, it blows the mine next to it, which causes a chain reaction down the line to our friend's death.

If you place the mines carefully, it works like a charm.

To a vigilant Kharaa player, mines should be laughed at. Just be alert, and if you're a skulk, walk over/around them, or turn into a gorge/lerk/fade and blow them up. I've never died from one yet, and the few deaths I see for mines are 75% marines.

Eh? Interesting, it does work but you have to shoot the mine several times to get a hit, or the hitboxes are just off. Never thought it could before That screws over a number of marine tactics, and should probably be changed IMO.

I still have never managed to set one off with Lerk spikes, however.
