Reapers respawn? (and how to kill them)

I've heard that all creatures respawn, but I've never seen a Reaper come back. I've killed a whole bunch of them now and only one has reappeared*. Specifically, I check the ones at the bow and stern of the Aurora, and the one on the east side of Gun Island. It's been weeks in game and they're still not back. I've seen people say that up to six of them can spawn in a given area, but I've never seen more than two at a time and only then because their patrol paths come close to each other.

I don't want to say that they're "easy" to kill, but the method I use is pretty consistent. You will need:
- Stasis Rifle (SR), preferably with Ion Battery
- If no Ion Battery, carry a stack of regular batteries because you will go through them quickly
- Thermal Knife (TK)
- In Voice of the Deep, knives no longer have durability, so if you're on XBox pre-VotD, carry a stack of knives, too
- Submersible of some sort
- Ultra High Capacity Air Tank (150 seconds of air) is nice to have, but not vital

Short version:
- Trap it with the SR and stab it until it's dead

Long version:
- Best trapping method is to wait for it to charge you
- Hit it with a quick pulse from the SR to stop it, then charge up a full blast
- Do NOT let it be in grabbing range of your vehicle because even trapped, it'll still grab and destroy it and then you're hecked

- A full blast from the SR takes about 3 seconds to charge and lasts about 25 seconds

- You can get a little faster than 1 strike per second with your knife

- It takes between 110 to 130 strikes with the TK to kill the Reaper
- I got up to 150 strikes with the Hardened Knife before I gave up and switched to TK

- To be safe, I hit the Reaper with a full SR blast every 20 strikes

This process takes about 120 seconds, so you can do it in one go with the Ultra air tank. Otherwise, use a full blast of the SR to swim back to your submersible to recharge your air when you need it. Lather, rinse, repeat.

This is a harrowing yet tedious process, but I've killed almost every Reaper on the map this way. The fact that I can do this at all seems kind of OP, but for the moment, I'm not complaining.

*One Reaper in the Dunes would re-appear every time I moved out of the area I killed it in. Like, within seconds. If I went for ten seconds in any direction and came back, it would be there. I think I killed it four times.
