    but maybe in the future they might think about improving it

    or, we could just include it in the main download, but other people like.. couldn't wear it! lol,
    lol, btw, I don't think there will be many more marine models, there is no reason for there to be, because I don't think you will see much of the marine in the dark, and if you ever get to the light... don't expect to be around for long <!--emo&:p--><img src="http://www.natural-selection.org/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/tounge.gif" border="0" valign="absmiddle" alt=':p'><!--endemo-->

    There are plans for a real female marine, but not in version1...

    A pity that you don't like the marines model, Jacq, but you'll have to bear with it. There will be different armors, I'm not sure about visual differences between them, though.

    Some people have mentioned that they don't like the look we're going for in the marine.  There are defintely a few improvements we'll be making to him (his exposed neck is going away, his coloring will change some, his face may become slightly more revealed), but in general, he's here to stay.

    try to make at least 10 diffirent models for the marines, they don't have to be super diffirent from each-other. you could just edit the model you allready have, add a slightly diffirent skin, and you're done. it adds so much to the game then if you're all running around looking exactly the same. And don't let people choose their models, let be be selected randomly (unless you're planning to have classes of course).

    But having many different marine skins would detract from the "team" aspect of the marines.  Don't forget, the marines are supposed to work exclusively as a team.  If there is any kind of visual distinction that separates the marines, they won't feel the same annonymity of the individual.

    And no, there will definitely not be classes for the marine byond the commander and his men.

    Different marine models wouldn't necessarily detract from teamwork.  In CS I work with the CT guys despite the fact we look different.  WOOHOO!!  Cosmetic difference only.  I good tactician is no match for a good make-up artist.  So, I argue that different models would serve cosmetic purposes only and would have no effect on gameplay.  I would like to have a choice for different models though.  A female marine would be cool, or maybe a big huge bulky guy, or GI Joe look-alikes.  j/k.  I like the current model and I think the modelers do so well I wnat more!!!!!!!  Being greedy is so bad.

    A female model will be cool!, i don´t like it at all but i think you can do better. The part I hate is that type of armor seems like an american gladiator plastic armor, if i must wear that i would prefer going on my own. I have one arms and legs protections for skating similar to thar  <!--emo&:p--><img src="http://www.natural-selection.org/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/tounge.gif" border="0" valign="absmiddle" alt=':p'><!--endemo--> . In the other hand the model is a great job, but i think some small changes will be interesting.
    I think player models are a very important part of any mod, try to give some reasons to forgot it XD.
    Finally polls will be very interesting so developers can have new opinion of many usual players of many great jobs.

    by slightly diffirent I mean facial expresion, brown/blond hair, skinny/fat. You could also remove the blue thingie in front of the marines eyes on some models. Just to add <b>a little</b> bit of variation.

    how much work would this be? some modeller/skinner could easily get all this done in less then a day. and it makes the game looks so much better

    I think the marines are looking good.  Sounds like they'll even be better.  I'm just hoping that one day the Crab Mon <img src="http://l5r.alderac.com/clanletters/mon_crab_small.gif" border="0">  will be on the armor.

    About the marine models... they already look awesome, but is there any posibility to implement some sort of... hmm, how can I put this, yeah, like if the marines get hurt ALOT, they look slightly different, it's a bit weird when some alien just sliced you really bad and you have a couple of hp left and you still just walk around looking like you just took a walk in the part  <!--emo&???--><img src="http://www.natural-selection.org/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/confused.gif" border="0" valign="absmiddle" alt='???'><!--endemo-->

    that's loads of work you'll be putting on the animators shoulders. really, you'd have to redo every animation you can think of. and if you want blood to appear... well.. forget it <!--emo&:)--><img src="http://www.natural-selection.org/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/smile.gif" border="0" valign="absmiddle" alt=':)'><!--endemo-->

    I think it may be cool idea to alter the models slightly.  Kepp them as they are but do as LPC said - chage the hair colour, skin eytc.  It may also be cool if there were little markings on the armor like in Aliens where the soldiers put emblems on their kit.  Its not necessary at all and would just add a slight aesthetic touch and possibley make it more autentic.  Definatly not for V1 I don't think though.

    my personal view on the marine model is that I'd like to see it look like it was from warhammer 40K.     it'd be nice to have all these effects and stuff but u gota remember how hard it is to code this and how much all these things would effect game speed, the more complex the more likely it'll be slower

    I wonder if the HL model system can support decals on the models, much like bulletholes are put on the walls.

    If so, it would save a LOT of texture memory, and marine teams could have a unit patch, and ranks put on them EASILY... like that crab patch.

    If not, maybe Flayra can code something using the particle system that puts a sprite right at the EXACTLY right spot or something where it would be on the model. Wouldn't be perfect, but...

    but...weapon models can be textured... what if (and i dont know if this is possible)...

    1. When you join a game, your pldecal.wad is transferred to the server, and you get everyones decal.
    2. You can have multiple weapon models on a model. In cs, if you have a handgun in your hand, your model has a handgun on his knee (?), so it could be possible to make a 'weapon' of the shoulderpads, which is always visible on the marine. Thus, the marine model has no shoulderpads, but ingame it has, because of the 'shoulderpad weapon' being drawn upon the marine model...
    3. You can change file extensions..

    what if.. Flayra changed the shoulderpad.mdl to pldecal.wad. When the game starts, pldecal.wad is transferred which is actually the shoulderpad. Then, halflife uses the pldecal.wad file as model for the shoulderpad (just let the filename be pldecal.wad). Then, every marine has his own 'pldecal.wad' shoulderpad, and everyone in the server has his own pad. The only thing that could go wrong here is if the pldecal.wad is written over by a real .wad file, but then flayra could just code it (like that is easy) so that when you change your spray in the customize menu it does not overwrite the pldecal.wad but pldecalfake.wad (f.e.).

    Everyone who can retexture a model can make his own pad, and there can be tutorials on the net on how to do this. (there is also a 'blank pad' included, with only the background of the pad, so you can include your own decal..)

    With the game, there are a few standard pads which are choosable for newbies in an exterior program (simple made) that automatically starts when people install NS... so not everyone has the same pads (which could be cool, but wth)...

    this would be really cool... clans have the same pads, people are easily recognised... AND the pad can be any color choosable... not just a few..

    the only bad thing i see is people changing the whole color of their pad (which is not a real problem, just does not look so nice)..

    Not changing it to pldecal.wad, no, but Flayra could code it so that the model was uploaded and such...

    However, having it something editable and then sent up wouldn't be good... you know someone would edit the mdl to make it into horns or something. But a set of preset 'pads' you could choose from would rock.
