So I was informed some news by a Wiki keeper.

And also in a PDA entry.

Subnautica takes place on a 2km by 2km Volcano. WOT

Now I didn't know this, so it was a shock to me, but it makes so much sense. Think about it.

Lava caverns deep down. Then less active lava zones. Then, the lava vents up on the surface. BOOM.

And now, an idea of what it would look like if it went off.

Considering the age of the Precursors, if this is a volcano, it's been relatively inactive (as in no eruptions) for a long time, 10,000's of years if not up to 1,000,000's.

What PDA message says anything like this?

    Sooo...

The 'Great Unknown' beyond the Grand Reef, is no longer great, or unknown.

Well that lowers the chances of seeing extensions to the map then, unless this is just a placeholder explanation for why the map is the way it is, or they give us ways to access depths greater than 1.7k. Greatest odds of new biomes would likely be cavern ones or reached by teleporter maybe?

Of course they could always just adjust the message too; I mean they have adjusted VO's and such already.

That just makes the void more confusing lol. So now I have to picture the edge of the map as a long endless cylinder going down. Instead of a normal volcano shape. This also makes the so far only weapon that tries to prevent ships from landing on an infected planet be in a bad location. Eventually this volcano will blow. No more precursor defense system. More people landing on the planet and getting infected. Way to go Precursors. You bailed for some reason. And left future people screwed lol. These people are really not smart or nice. I guess you can say the Precursors carved out the shape to be easier to deal with. But why waste time to do that.

I always thought the planet was just weird. It didn't follow Earth behavior. Lava liked being very close to the surface. And the only reason why water and a weather system formed. Was because the Precursors used the whole planet as a Ion factory. It caused a huge drop in core temperature. Their tech kept the planet stable. But than caused weather systems to form. Rain, hurricanes etc. to build up the water level. Till it flooded the planet. Species evolved, they had some bad interaction with Ion crystals or their tech. The Carar was formed. Look at the neighboring moon. It's all volcanic looking. I just pictured this is how this planet looked like before.
