So I was informed some news by a Wiki keeper.
And also in a PDA entry.
Subnautica takes place on a 2km by 2km Volcano. WOT
Now I didn't know this, so it was a shock to me, but it makes so much sense. Think about it.
Lava caverns deep down. Then less active lava zones. Then, the lava vents up on the surface. BOOM.
And now, an idea of what it would look like if it went off.

The 'Great Unknown' beyond the Grand Reef, is no longer great, or unknown.
Of course they could always just adjust the message too; I mean they have adjusted VO's and such already.
I always thought the planet was just weird. It didn't follow Earth behavior. Lava liked being very close to the surface. And the only reason why water and a weather system formed. Was because the Precursors used the whole planet as a Ion factory. It caused a huge drop in core temperature. Their tech kept the planet stable. But than caused weather systems to form. Rain, hurricanes etc. to build up the water level. Till it flooded the planet. Species evolved, they had some bad interaction with Ion crystals or their tech. The Carar was formed. Look at the neighboring moon. It's all volcanic looking. I just pictured this is how this planet looked like before.
