OOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUh(scream of mournfullness. Thats a word now)
You really think Alterra would let you keep him? They'd take him as repossession of that debt you owe (6 million credits at what, a week in?) and do experiments that would make the Precursors recoil in horror to see what makes him smart.
...that debt you owe (6 million credits at what, a week in?)
Sometimes I wonder why our character actually wants to escape the planet xD
Sure we might have family out there - unless they were on the ship too - but with a debt like that how often would we actually get to see them upon returning? In fact with your PDA telling you about that debt, wouldn't that be enough to make you have second thoughts about leaving?
On the flip side, there's also that PDA talking about how profitable this planet could be, so perhaps you have plans to arrange a deal of sorts with Alterra to handwave that debt you procured. Maybe you'll even come back to lead some expedition team or something. Or do surveying/research/whatever on your own, since NPC's are unlikely to happen.
So... Maybe returning wouldn't be all that bad. Or maybe it would be that bad. Hmm..... That 'returning to Planet 4546B' could be a way to continue playing after the story's ended or tie into potential expansions down the road.
I just imagined what could happen once we leave the planet: Alterra taking the planet over to mine it all, selling the edible things to fancy restaurants all over the galaxy, and the non-edible ones to zoos. The non-edible ones which fail to make the trip alive get taxidermied and sold to freak shows.

That's why I killed mine, so I could spawn in a new one.
Don't ask.
Nope, its the goodbye animation before leaving the planet

Alternatively, just decide to never leave in the first place :P
or never pick him up until you DO leave.
I'm turning the QEP back on again.
If that happens I'm with you
You could just toss the PDA into a lava pit before you leave.
It's the only thing recording what you been doing, for however long it takes for you to get off the planet.
Poof! No more debt.
