[BUG] Stuck in Groundhog Day

This is a weird one.

When I launch the game, before the menu screen, I briefly get a flash of the HUD.
At the menu screen, I pick new game.
I get all the loading stuff. When it starts loading world tiles I hear the "Warning, Emergency Power Only, Oxygen Production Offline" message.
The screen goes dark like at the beginning of the opening sequence BUT I start getting alerts about base power restored, crush depth upgrades installing and so forth. It starts black, and plays all the sound effects, but when my vision is restored I am in a base from an old savegame, locked staring at the ceiling, rather than seeing the escape pod scenario. I have my inventory from the old savegame. I have my vehicles and their crush depth upgrades. I have a notification about a new radio message.
If I hold escape, I can "finish" the intro sequence. If I don't hold escape, I still get kicked into the groundhog day base after I hear my character get knocked out by the flying panel in the opening sequence (the screen goes black briefly).
Either way, I then get the tutorial messages like use mouse to loko around, WASD to move, etc. Then I'm told to use left mouse to pick up the fire extinguisher. There is no fire extinguisher and no fire as I am not in the lifepod.

Things I have tried:
  • Deleting the new savegame and trying again.
  • Deleting the savegame with the groundhog-day base in it.
  • Deleting all savegames.
  • Uninstalling Subnautica and reinstalling.
  • Deleting everything in Steam\SteamApps\common\Subnautica and telling Steam to repair, which is a fancy way of reinstalling but anyways...

Things I have not tried that I would really like to not have to do:
  • Reformatting my hard drive
  • Buying a new computer
  • Voodou sacrifice (nothing against Voodou, I just like chickens)

This has been going on for a while, but it is still present in the Eye Candy Update (steam content BuildID: 2348287)

What else can I delete? Where do I look? Haaaalp!

    Delete the following:

    C:\ProgramData\Unknown Worlds\Subnautica
    C:\Users\<yourusername>\AppData\LocalLow\Unknown Worlds\Subnautica

If that doesn't work, install Everything (64-bit) -- or you can use the portable version, but it's a handy tool to have around. Personally, I also choose to install it as a service, as I want it always ready when I use it, but that's up to you. What does Everything do?

Open it up. After it's finished with first-time indexing of your hard disk, you can type the name of any file or folder and it will search as you type -- when you finish typing, the results are there; it's that fast! (Microsoft, take note: this is how it's supposed to be!)

    Now, search for
    slot00

-- what do you see there?
    Also, search for
    Subnautica

    -- what about here?

To go to the folder, double-click it. To go to a file location, right-click and hit "Open Path" (opens the folder the file resides in).

You can also export a search result if you need to share it here or elsewhere (File -> Export...)
