Rant - Loss of progress...

Correct me if I am wrong, does the game not save upon ext? I could have swore that it did as I have exited the game and game back to where I was without a manual save. So, I am past the story line, and have everything I am aware you can get, so my playing is just exploring. I logged in, played for about an 1hr plus getting some resources and stocking up my sub with food/water and etc. Here is the kicker, I was down around the 400+ mark (I know for most of you that is nothing) but you have to understand I have a fear of the deep waters. So, it was hard for me but I was there gathering rare resources. When I went back into my game after taking a break, all my prior progress for today was gone. :(

So yeah, that sucked and as the title states, this is just my rant / relief. Although it doesn't help, I at least get to put it out there... hehe

Peace!

I believe "hardcore" mode has autosave on exit, but I know all other modes you have to save manually. I wouldn't want autosave on exit, unless it was a separate slot, since sometimes things get messed up due to glitches.

I know the feeling. This is why with many games I play I don't trust them to "autosave". Then again I'm used to it as I come from an era where autosave didn't exist and if you forgot to save after a long session you had a headache. That being said I'm kinda glad it doesn't do this. What if I made a mistake during said session and I didn't catch it before saving? :)

I agree. The game's save slots don't work the way they work in most games; they're more like "session slots" than anything else, and it's up to you to determine when to save. Multiple save slots within a session would be great, but I cannot begin to imagine what a headache that would be to program, given how Unity apparently ties so many things to each other.

Adding a way to have multiple save files within a session would be great for my peace-of-mind. I think it should definitely be considered.

I do a SAVE about every 10 minutes or so while playing the game and also save whenever I'm about to do something that might not be so fortuitous to my characters well being.

It's just a prudent thing to do.

    It's also quite easy...

Just hit the ESC key, click on SAVE and you're back to diving into the adventure in no time.

@Obraxis are you guys going to move the "Press F8 in-game to report bugs and give feedback" notification to the main menu for release?

Please remember to not annoy players with saving if they just did it (in the last minute).

Be funny as Hell if the Alterra PDA were to tell you to do a SAVE every couple of hours (or once a "Game-Day) while you're playing.

It's very SAD that They took out the bit of snarkiness that the PDA had.
    :/

Or just for those moments when you try to find out how many knife cuts it takes to kill a sea dragon... >:)

It already does that - it's set to only show if there is more than 1 minute of unsaved progress. It's a replacement for the existing quit dialog so it's not an extra dialog either way, but this way folks are less likely to just hit yes out of habit as the dialog looks different when they've forgotten to save.
