Hey! Im writing this thread as a form of letting you guys know that you are doing an awesome job with the game AND to also leave an idea!!

The game diversity (creatures, scenarios and etc.) are pretty big already, but it would be awesome to keep exploring the world even after beating the game!

I've noticed that there is a rocket blueprint implemented in the game, and I think I know where this is going...( I think everyone does haha)
The end of the game would be escaping the planet with that rocket after deactivating that anti-air thingy in the alien base(correct?). But...I presume that would just end the game once and for all, right? After all he's got through, the character finally escapes. The end. *thats when credits pops-up*

Basically, with the anti-air defenses disabled, it would be possible to come back to the planet safely ("safely" *COF COF* in means of landing a ship without being destroyed in mid-air). And that just gives you the freedom to make the history flow how you want immensely!!

That's where my idea come in.

When you beat the game, it would unlock a second game mode, a sort of "free roam mode".
I kinda thought in a little backstory for it: "The expedition mode".

I, personally, thought about Alterra getting interested in the planet due to the events that occurred, and ends deciding to send an expedition to that planet (Now intentionally haha), whose mission would be to find out more about the planet as much as possible. Since the theme is about an expedition, it would be strange to send a one-man expedition, so I thought about some options:

1. Making NPCs to cover the other tripulants

2. Come up with a excuse story for you being alone again...like:
"the expedition were of high risk, so it wouldn't be wise to invest much money in it. Knowing that, the expedition was formed by a small but highly trained group, and they were dispatched each to different locations in the planet in a launch pod..."

something like that.
3. Multiplayer to cover the tripulants

Backstory side note about the character: MAYBE the character we've played before decided to come back in this expedition? Or maybe you play as a different one...?

Adding this gamemode would let you guys keep adding stuff to the game and pushing the void area even farther away (due to the new added areas), being able to focus only in the unique essence of each creature/area added, without really "having to worry" with the story line.
If you guys ever had awesome ideas to keep expanding the subnautica universe but had problems like "dang... That would be awesome, but it just doesn't fit in the story line...what does this creature have to do with the search for the cure of Carar...?" ... Well, now you don't need to worry about that anymore :)

Recaptulating, I think its a good thing to implement in the future, because as I said, if you have any good ideas you can just put them in the game without worrying with the storyline.

Ok, thats my idea. I've imagined some possible generic answers/questions to the post, so Im going to answer them here already:

"Ok, good idea, BUT, we don't want to work on the game anymore once we're finished with the storyline. /We don't plan adding much more stuff other than the storyline...too much effort. "

-> Alright...Then at least leave the game open to modding! Skyrim is a big example! It's been years that it was launched and it's still played by lots of people because of its modding community!!! It's what keeps the game alive!!! ( I saw a post talking about mods on Subnautica and it seems that the devs haven't really talked about it...so...here's another encouragement to opening the game to modding!)

"What's stopping us from adding new stuff to the game without a new game mode? pls. "

-> Well...Nothing. But I think it would be better if you do add the gamemode. This new endgame mode would just encourage people to keep exploring further.

My personal experience with the game was awesome, but when I "finished the game" (deactivated the alien base and freed the sea emperor - Let's consider that as an ending, since the rocket part hasn't been finished yet), I didn't had a single encounter with a Reaper Leviathan and hadn't visited all the biomes, because I played in hardcore, and I knew that venturing further would bring only unnecessary risks that could wipe the entire savegame without completing the main story.

Adding this "expedition game mode" would just "fix" that. Because I wouldn't have to worry about dying and not completing the story line, got it? Since the main objective would be to explore the world, not escape it!

Well, that's it! Thanks for reading this far.
And again, keep up the good work!
