Stable Jan 17 game: disabled weapons facility, now standing in complete darkness

I am playing on a Mac Pro, High Sierra. The rest of the game is running wonderfully smooth--no drops or delays in loading. I was able to get to the Lava Castle and the Aquarium and heal myself for the first time. But when I deactivated the weapons facility--everything went black. I could not use my flashlight, either. Is this right?
Edit: I managed to get out, using flares and light poles, but it felt like the darkness was swallowing the light. I was walking in total darkness.
(Good luck with launch BTW, although I am bit sad to be losing the joy of the past three years.)
