I really think the game needs some jellyfish that drift around aimlessly. Obviously, you should avoid them, because they sting. It would add a lot to the feel of open ocean.
May I propose some irl jellyfish which could be inspired from for this idea? Click on the pictures to go to their WoRMS page which has all the taxonomic information you need including vernaculars, attributes and documented distribution. Be mindful that not all of them are actually jellyfish, if you've got any question on one of them ask away lol
If Subnautica had a jellyfish it would be hard to get it to look very other-worldly... if you had @Darwin-Evolution s pictures for reference. The Nausithoe punctate is a straight up alien!
@NuclearTesting IKR! I absolutely love that species for its look, it just looks like a flying saucer or something like that lol. Most coronate medusas do, but its thick tentacles and red gonads make it look so alien!

Well most of the subnautica creatures are loosely based on a real equivalent. Take the crab squid for example. It looks very similar to an octopus or squid.
