Change "Recommended system requirements" to something that can actually play the game

This has been on my mind for a while and I think the recommended system requirements should be made higher because my PC with a 1060, an i7 7700HQ, 16 gigs of ddr4 ram, and a ssd has a hard time holding 60 fps at the high preset with frequent drops into the 50s and 40s. I simply can't believe that a gtx 550 ti can play this game at even low settings with 720p since my friend has a gt 1030 and he can only play at around 50 fps at low and a couple medium settings at 1080p. Please raise your system requirements on the steam page for a 60 fps medium experience.

The gt 1030 is a small card with performance comparable to the gtx 550 ti. Depending on the application, the 550 should even perform better.
If you're tech savvy and want a simple test, just remove your GPU. Your CPU has a decent onboard video card, just check how the game behaves on it.
Minimum requirements shouldn't account for 60fps experiences. Consoles usually play at 30fps, there's nothing wrong with it. I, for one, would like to see this game in as many platforms as possible. It is a memorable experience (even at ~30fps) that everyone should have access to.
P.S.: Your fps drops have nothing to do with your machine not being adequate for the game, it is the other way around. This game has performance issues in computers more powerful than yours.
"Recommended Requirements" typically means above 30FPS on med-high. Just in case you weren't sure.
Tbh, there's barely any difference until you get 30 FPS. Then 25 is when it starts to get annoying, but 10 is unplayable
I'd rather constant and solid 30 fps than 60 fps that oscillates to 40 regularly.
And I prefer higher fps than detailed textures and effects.
I agree. The industry standard definition for “Recommended” is what it takes to keep the game above 30. So, Subnautica is well within industry norms with what they’ve posted. No need to change anything.
This is a good statement of preference - but unfortunately your preference isn’t in line with what the industry considers to be the guidelines for what consitutes “recommended requirements”.
Glad we got that figured out
Well, I don't think we do.
First, yes it was a statement of preference. Nowhere above I implied my opinion was in line with the "industry", or even what "industry guidelines" or "industry standard definitions" are supposed to be.
I was opining on @LeeTwentyThree statement, which is probably also personal opinion, on what is supposed to be perceivable regarding variable frame rates on games.
As far as I can tell there are no rules set in stone regarding recommend requirements for pc games. Therefore it is up to the devs to provide what these should be.
I agree there are industry common practices in this matter, just like everywhere else. Please, just take it down a notch when trying to educate people on subjects that are loosely defined, if defined at all.
