A pickle indeed!
Anyone had a problem with worldcraft/hammer (either one) just completely freezing when using them... for a while now I have put up with it by saving regularly (every couple of minutes) but now if I make a single brush or entity, the whole computer freezes and then I get the NT blue screen of death stating a problem detected in nv4 blah blah blah.... anyone had this or have it and gotten over it? PLEASE HELP ME OBI-WON KENOBI...you're my only hope!

From that nv4, I'm guessing it's probably a problem with your video card. Try and get the newest drivers, and if that doesn't work, try uninstalling and reinstalling Hammer.

Well, the HL editing programs are buggy as heck (maybe not as much so recently), but they still have tons of problems. All I can see is make sure your card supports OpenGL, you have the latest drivers for all your stuff. After that, Umm, lets see what other people have to say.

I can't imagine what's going on, Hanz. I really does sound more like a problem with your computer more then anything.

Actually, I rarely ever have a problem with WC/VHE freezing up, etc... Used to, but I think it was cleared up for me in 3.3...

Ooh! I did get it to crash last night though! It just so happens that if you can manage to press "Ctrl-Z" approx 15 times per second for long enough... it will silently crash to the desktop without any errors. Serious.

    (Don't... ask...)

Well....I'm pretty sure that Geforce3 64mb video cards support opengl ....lol

I got no other problems with opengl enabled apps - ala 3dsmax, animatek world builder and combustion2... nor do I have an game problems.... that's why it's so annoying... I've got latest drivers installed, via 4-in-1's, latest mb bios.... short of hitting my computer with a hammer, I don't know what else to do

Wait a sec... what -version- of the GeForce drivers are you running? (Yes, latest one... but do you have numbers?)

I already had this problem. Worldcraft could freeze for no reason and absolutely nothing was working (However I got no error message) . I was running on win98 but now I've got a new computer and that solved the problem.

If you're running win 98, I'd say it's about time to reformat and install the OS... but If it's XP, then I've no idea. since I've upgraded to WinXP, I have yet to get a blue screen O' death, and I've only managed to have one program crash on me.

that's it.... I'm gonna buy a new computer in about a month... if that doesn't fix it... I think a suitable mail-bombing of valve will probably help...

    HANZ! Read this: http://www.natural-selection.org/cgi-bin....16;st=0

It is not your card, computer, etc. It is the program and it can be fixed (or so it seems).

I deleted and reistalled the program to get rid of any bad files. I then deleted ALL registry entries that tie to VHE. This should take out any incompatibility between VHE and Windows. Also, set the program to run in a higher resource mode. The program eats up video power like mad, so I figured assigning more power to it could help.

Anyway, I tried all this and the program ran for about 2 straight hours, which is the best I've yet seen. I hope this helps.

crem, I tried your hygene method to no avail. Made a brush and thought "SUCCESS" and then I made a info_player_start and it died a horrible death.
