Near extinction of Bladderfish ?!?

On my survival game, I've just cleared the Aurora and gotten the PRAWN suit. Doing some base and Cyclops restocking prior to going deeper. For water, been eating Marblemelons and drinking Large Filtered Water for a long time.
Then I noticed on my gathering runs I've not seen any Bladderfish for a long long time.
So I started looking out for them. Completely gone. Whoa. Deliberate game change or just a glitch?
Then on a recent swimout, saw one! Captured it. A bit later, got another.
Then into Alien Containment x4 they went. Already have examples to keep. Currently breeding them to release back into the wild.

I'm running the current stable Subnautica, Sep-2018 61056. Any idea if it was supposed to be fixed before or after?
I also had massive lag problems and have had to delete some of the original cache files, so that could be linked into this too.
It's kind of weird still. I dumped a lot of Bladderfish right near my base. I see a lot of them--at night. During the day, almost none.
