Fix The Forums!

<div class="IPBDescription">They're still buggy as **obscenity**</div> I'll hit 'refresh' and it'll have topics I've read and replied to still at the part in the list where they were when I read, meaning a topic four hours old could be on top of my reply which is four seconds old, and it will never show me brand new topics unless I quit IE entirely. These are the only forums where I have this problem. Any way to make the forums totally refresh instead of being cached whenever you hit 'back'?

The forum clock appears to be off. The main forum page says to me, "Welcome back; your last visit was on Dec 12 2002, 01:22 AM." Now, it is currently 5:20pm on Dec. 11th, and I'm pretty sure the forums are situated in the US - so it's not the 12th yet. The General forum also says that the most recent reply was on Dec. 11th at 6:20... which hasn't happened yet, either. Something's not quite right here. (:

My post isn't even about the forums crashing... they're just set up really poorly, because it caches it, so when you hit refresh it'll just pull up what you last saw... I didn't even see your reply until I clicked on my topic and read it.

This is what happens when you use a BETA version of a forum on a live site (look at the footer).

They really ought to use phpBB (the best IMO). Its FREE, its stable & it has much nicer themes than this one (not that that matters much though).

This "beta" version is a near final beta and is plenty stable. Their DB is what is having trouble (and FYI idb uses fewer queries the PHPBB). They probably need to resynchronize the forums in the admin control panel. However, it seems that no one is really taking care of the forums.

2 new forums admins have been added recently (Me and SpyderMonkkey) to help out with the admin aspect of the forums. (We dont have FTP acess to fix those pesy PHP errors tho), but we're starting to learn the ropes to fix problems like this one. Flayra and Monse are just too busy right now to deal with fixing small bugs.

So, please, give us a little time to learn our way around the control panel, and Ahnteis, if you know how to fix it, please tell, Ill take a peek on the IDB site here <!--emo&:)--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/smile.gif' border='0' valign='absmiddle' alt='smile.gif'><!--endemo-->

They're using v1.1 Beta 2. The current beta version is v1.1 Beta 4.

And regardless, its never a good idea beta software on a live site.

ack. Yes, they should use beta 4. <!--emo&:)--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/smile.gif' border='0' valign='absmiddle' alt='smile.gif'><!--endemo--> (All you have to do is upload the files over the top.)

    I would personally try:
AdminCP -> Forum Control -> Manage
Click the resync button (circular arrows) for each forum.

    Then I would
AdminCP -> Administration -> Recount Statistics
and recount them all (do it when board isn't as busy like reaaallly late or early in morning).

EDIT: Comp, is there a reason you haven't changed to the skin I made for Monse? I haven't heard a word from him since he said he was going to do it "tomorrow". (Several weeks ago.)

yes, I beleive that phpBB was what the last boards where

with a board this big you have to be cautious with BWidth (specialy if you have no real income to support it like NS)

meh, I will live with the buggies and not complain, I personaly don't bash free things ;D

The forum clock shows all time in Greenwich Mean Time unless you change your timezone settings.

It's in: My Controls > Board Settings

As for the forum being "beta" its "Beta 2" of Invision 1.1. The entire forum isn't beta, it's just a milestone version...

And changing forums would require someone to either port the ENTIRE forum database over to the new forum, or for everyone to start the entire board over again. Both I'm assuming unpleasant options.

I sent the skin info Comp. You really should get someone to upload the 1.1b4 version. <!--emo&:)--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/smile.gif' border='0' valign='absmiddle' alt='smile.gif'><!--endemo--> (Just upload the files over the top. PM or ICQ me if you want more info.)

Uh... the "Print HTTP no-cache headers?" board setting (cpu saving) is set to "yes", correct? I've never played around with this setting, so I don't know what the result would be if set to "no".

Personally, I love Invision Power Boards. Best forum software I've worked with in a long time. Outside of the tricky template system (in comparison to, say, phpBB), most everyone else agrees.
