Haven't played this yet or BZ for a while, but as a vegan who likes to play that way in survival games, this update title definitely got my attention.
It's nearly possible to play Subnautica vegan (except for needing to kill coral for eg. computer chips) but super boring. Swim straight to the island. Grab lantern fruit. Make builder. Build base. Plant lantern fruit. Maybe sit in a chair to freeze hunger if you need to.
Then it's just a lot of eating those fruit.
I like fruit. Love it. But gameplay and immersion wise it's a bit sad.
