<div class="IPBDescription">I was in a chair-ing mood today.</div> I saw that other thread offering chairs, and I was suddenly struck with a dire need to create a chair of my own. <!--emo&:D--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/biggrin.gif' border='0' valign='absmiddle' alt='biggrin.gif'><!--endemo-->

Here's a picture. It ain't skinned yet, though. I hate texturing and skinning.

Next on the list is another... model... that I have a dire need to make. I'll show you all later... <!--emo&:)--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/smile.gif' border='0' valign='absmiddle' alt='smile.gif'><!--endemo-->

Oh yeah... these may or may not be used in my own maps that I am making. But I'll post the (finished) .mdl's later and you can use them in your maps as you see fit cuz I'm so nice! Chairs everywhere! Yay!

PS. Praise and criticism on the CHAIR is welcome. Chair the love!

That reminds me.. I really need to hit a prefab site at some point for some inspiration...

But, nice chair. Or at least it will be when it's textured <!--emo&;)--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/wink.gif' border='0' valign='absmiddle' alt='wink.gif'><!--endemo-->

    Other models we should have:

    Knives
    Forks
    Silverware
    Pots and pans
    Bunk beds (red dwarf style)

Other miscellaneous sundries that lie around in the future.

World models eh... ladders might be a nice one. sloped or straight. Hmm... some kind of console panel or computer+ keyboard. That kind of thing.

We should get a site with all the publicly released world models for download. Maybe try and get a sticky topic for it in the forum. I think my next world model is gonna be a little tablet pc/datapad type thing.

Will world models contribute to raising the r-speed?
  • ChromeAngelChromeAngel Join Date: 2002-01-24 Member: 14Members, NS1 Playtester, Contributor
These should only effect epolys. I believe they are more properly called "Studio models" (.mdl file type).
  • TabrisTabris Join Date: 2002-11-02 Member: 4273Members
Models do not affect r_speeds... they are represented as e_polys and as mappers we have little control over them.. unless of course you put 24 of those chairs in one room.

It's nice to see that we chaire about eachother and make these nice chair.mdl's
You chairuld (should) make more. Cause I chair can't.

    Hehe... he.. eh <!--emo&???--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/confused.gif' border='0' valign='absmiddle' alt='confused.gif'><!--endemo-->

Whatever! Bring it on! Make more models! They are very good for details in our maps.
    Damn i need sleep <!--emo&:)--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/smile.gif' border='0' valign='absmiddle' alt='smile.gif'><!--endemo-->

    I'll try ONCE again:

Nice model. This is the kind of stuff we really need right now to bring ns just another notch above all other mods.
    There, i made it.

    Argh!

I made a mistake with the model (not really visible in the screenie, but I forgot to delete a chunk of polys off of the shape of the seat). Now the texture I made for it is wrong. A minor setback, but its gonna be damn annoying to fix. And I can't keep the polys on the chair cuz they screw up how the texture is displayed. <!--emo&--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/mad.gif' border='0' valign='absmiddle' alt='mad.gif'><!--endemo--> <!--emo&--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/mad.gif' border='0' valign='absmiddle' alt='mad.gif'><!--endemo-->

HyperGeek, yeah, I think a site with the models will be cool. And I could post my textures up there too. Maybe we could use the Selective Design site....? I'll ask the guy who runs it if he'd be interested if he doesn't see this thread.

Before I worry about posting the model, however, I'm gonna FINISH it, heh.

It should take a little while, I'll probably get around to putting it up tomorrow.

PS. And I'm gonna get to work on those other model ideas, ideas which are, IMHO, a stroke of genius <!--emo&;)--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/wink.gif' border='0' valign='absmiddle' alt='wink.gif'><!--endemo-->

Please whatever you guys do, stay by the NS guidlines, no bloody or gore models, stupid needless things, you know what I'm saying. keep it cool. Those chairs are cool but I really don't need to see models abused in levels. Like a Fork stuck into a skull or something model or the chicken ont he table model or the fake skulk model.
  • evoLvingeviLevoLvingeviL Join Date: 2002-11-08 Member: 7802Members
But of course. I would never dream of attempting such blasphemies!
  • Psycho-Kinetic_Hyper-GeekPsycho-Kinetic_Hyper-Geek Join Date: 2002-11-18 Member: 9243Banned, Constellation
I finished the datapad. Now on to more junk. BTW have you talked to that guy about getting a world model archive?
::NOTE:: The actual in game skin isn't quite at this high a resolution ::NOTE::

Btw, is anyone making ships(eg: corvettes, drop ships, cargo, etc.)?
  • BiTMAPBiTMAP Join Date: 2002-11-08 Member: 7685Members
mm I do need a chair for my eating area, and pads of paper with pencils, and stuff but i think i have someone doing it for me...
  • evoLvingeviLevoLvingeviL Join Date: 2002-11-08 Member: 7802Members
That's a niftyrific datapad... but why did you post it in MY thread? <!--emo&:p--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/tounge.gif' border='0' valign='absmiddle' alt='tounge.gif'><!--endemo-->

And BiTMAP, gimme a holler if you need anything modeled.

Lastly, Crackbrock had a good idea... ships! I'll get on it... I'll make two versions, a 'landed' model and a 'crashed' model of the same ship design. And I'll probably make a dropship someday soon.

Another idea I want people's opinion on: Wrecked machinery! It might be generic machery, which doesn't matter, but how does wrecked turret and turret factory models strike you? A good idea?
  • ctxctx Join Date: 2002-11-02 Member: 4592Members
That sounds awsome! I look forward to it.

Psycho-Kinetic Hyper-Geek, How many polys is that model? I really like the look of it, but, unless there is a combination between low and high res textures, it looks fairly high poly for a box shaped object.

It must be remembered that the main consideration of making Ns maps is to keep the number of polys down. I beleive that most GFX cards can easily cope with the r_speeds limit of 400 w_polys, the main sticking point is the e_poly created by the models. Many people, including me, have crappy Voodoo3 cards that already have trouble coping with the marine base due to the high e_polys being drawn. These models you are creating, really must be kept as low poly as possible to ensure that if they are used, the maps are still playable for those with lausy GFX cards.

Apart from that, great work on the models people, this is the sort of thing that can really make some areas of a map interesting <!--emo&:)--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/smile.gif' border='0' valign='absmiddle' alt='smile.gif'><!--endemo-->

Its 28 polys, a regular cube has 12 so I may just switch the textures over to that, but then It wouldnt be as interesting to look at. E-polies don't seem to affact speeds as much as rs. You can have a dozen of my chairs in a room and it will be about the same as 1 extra marine. Ohh and Evo I felt that this thread had kinda turned into a general world model discussion.

Did someone make a fake skulk? That's so lame...
But how about a research skulk? (a dead skulk in a glasstube with wires coming out of it)

Or a bit far fetched: stuffed animals like a mammoths and dolphins or whatever, in a public museum. <!--emo&:)--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/smile.gif' border='0' valign='absmiddle' alt='smile.gif'><!--endemo-->

I could use a dropship model for NS_Trantius, both hangers need one.
Also need general machinery for the Machine Shop.
