Double Struct Researching

<div class="IPBDescription">Is it worth it?</div> In one game I was playing as comm, we had almost every resource node on the map locked down, and my resources were accumulating so fast that I couldn't build fast enough to keep them down. However, the aliens were slowly changing the tide of the game.

Then I thought, if I build two arms labs, maybe I can double research like in other RTS type games. It worked! I researched armor1/weapons1 simultaneously, armor2/weapons2, etc., and it changed the tide back into our favor (mostly because of the upgraded turrets) since our research time was halved.

I know it wasn't a big deal since I had the resources to spare, but do you all think that it's an overall benefit to do it in a regular situation? Opinions please.

    I'd say do it in bigger servers since you get resources at a much faster rate, rather than a smaller server, where you could be using those vital resources for building a TF or phase gate.

    I've never built more than one arms lab as a commander, but I can see the point. I typically start on upgrades once the first hive is secured, so there's really no point in my building two with only one or two left to get.

    Usually, if you've got a huge number of resources, just start dropping down weapons and equipment. Your troops won't complain. <!--emo&:)--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/smile.gif' border='0' valign='absmiddle' alt='smile.gif'><!--endemo-->

    If you have an assload of resources, go crazy, build what the hell you want. As long as you give you troops their concrete suits and ridiculo-cannons, I'm sure they won't mind.

    Double tech pumping?

    You can ONLY do this when you have an insane amount of resources....
    Let's take a look at the resource costs (sorry if this looks like some Mastercard ad)

    Arms Lab: 50 RPs
    Tech Levels:
    - 1 : 20
    - 2 : 40
    - 3 : 60

    To do a dual tech pump you'll need 100 RPs to get the infrustructure in the first place, THEN it'll cost 40 rps for the first level, 80 for the 2nd and 120 for the third. If you cannot afford to double pump the tech level, there is no point in having 2 arms labs. You are far better off with just one and just chewing on the time before you can clock in the other upgrade rather than having an arms lab idle when you could have prevented it


    In general situations when you DON'T have that insane level of resources to burn, the resources that you used to set up the infrastructure to reaserch in that manner and attempting to get the most out of the invesement would be better put in the offensive operations (forward mobile bases, troop equipment etc...)
