Weird neck pain

...it hurts....
Ok, About 3 days ago I got a cold and stayed home from school for 2 days. During those 2 days I didnt use the computer any more than I would a normal day however, I noticed after about 30 mins of use on my computer my neck would hurt like crazy! At one point if I took a deep breath I could feel the pain in the back of my head. It was not too fun. If anyone knows anything about this, why would my neck just start hurting for no reason? I have spent days (20 hrs +) on the computer and never had this. Help!

not sure steve, but maybe if you buy a ghillie suit, you'd feel all better....

what would really suck is if you had a herniated disc. not good. but you can sort of tell if its bone or if its muscle. stiffness is usually associated with muscle. my suggestion is to do neck stretches (not rolling--thats bad) forward-backward and side-side. if the pain persists, see a doctor.

'course, then again, headaches and stiff neck are some of the symptoms of bacterial meningits... something that usually kills in about three days. We've had teens down here in Austin die from it in the past month or so.

Probably just one of those severe neck cramps.

    Hate it when that happens.

The pain is very similar to that when you throw out a rib... while you're at the checkout in the store... and can't move because of the pain... just have to stand there, hunched over... can't talk... people staring... /grumbles

I think you should see a doctor. Here in holland, all the children now get vaccinated for menginitis because 20 children died having it. You can always just go to be sure, better go and find out its nothing then not go and finding out its meningitis. The children died because the parents thought it was just a normal desease, as the symptoms are a stiff (? dont know if its the right translation) neck, a flu, a cold etc.

I think its best to go to be sure.

    Dude!
this happened to me once, I just woke up one morning and I couldnt move my neck at all, I could only see straight forward, I couldnt turn my head to the right, left, nor up or down, what you have to do is (this is PAINFULL): but you have to roll you'r head alot, like the boksers do, it hurts though, it was over in like 3 days for me hope you get well soon

Rolling your head is a very bad idea. Its one of the wore things you can do.

I had that a couple of weeks ago, but it was only after being up for 48 hours and it refused to go away until I curled up into a ball and went to sleep. by the time I'd woken up the pain had been healed...

Hearing somebody mentioning spending 20 hours on the computers
makes me suggest start training a few hours every week.

/me worried about half of the forum-goers starting to rot from the inside out because of to little phsyical activity.

LOL... know how I stay in shape?

Dance Dance Revolution. No joke, my friend and I get together and play for about 2 hours, 2 or 3 times/week on my playstation. Here at school, we have access to a sw33t 5' TV screen, and he's got plywood mods for his pads, so we just go crazy. *Serious* workout... we pretty much only play Maniac difficulty now.

Dude, do NOT walk it off. Death usually occurs within a few days, and by the time it gets worse enough to actually warrent a trip to the hospital, SEVERE and PERMANENT brain damage results!

    Get yourself to a hospital!

It depends, it might just be one of the worst things to do, but it depends on what the reason of the neck pain is, as for my case my neck muscles were just all cramped because I had been sleeping in an oquard position the same night, but if something else is causing it I don't know, but Steve, I think you should go to a hospital, just to be sure, most people think: Something like this won't happen to me, or they think: ok, so I die, i'd rather die then going to the hospital... be smart, do alternative number 2
