Sure, people will still build new models and sounds for Natural Selection, but in all honestly, hardly anyone will use them.
Got new sounds and models and want to play with your pals on a server with consistancy enforcing? Too bad. <!--emo&:(--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/sad.gif' border='0' valign='absmiddle' alt='sad.gif'><!--endemo-->
Want to play on a new server with a nice ping? Too bad. <!--emo&:(--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/sad.gif' border='0' valign='absmiddle' alt='sad.gif'><!--endemo-->
Great, you can play on 50% of servers, fantastic, but using customisations instantly bans you from a large number of servers.
Do any of you really feel so strongly about people possibly using pointy models in a game that already enables wallhack to a certain extent feel it's necessary to cripple peoples creative urges?
I used to swap my awesome new sounds out and in to play on different servers, but in the end, the consistancy forcing stopped me from enhancing my gameplay experience.

Then there's the "spend time locating and getting to know the admin and convince him that his consistancy forcing is a bad idea and ask him to turn it off" idea. It's too hard to do and wouldn't work. The most likely thing is that I'd get people accusing me of wanting to cheat, and a witch hunt would begin.
Personally, I don't care if someone cheats like this. I will still beat them. Even if I get killed sometimes, it's worth it to have a more aesthetically pleasing game. In the quake days, people could customise their game to the nth degree. It really was a very personalised experience for some people. Great fun!
Nowadays, so many people can't stand being killed. It's so painful to their egos that they must blame something. This leads to witch hunts and banning of things like this.
On the converse, for competitions and *some* ladders, consistancy enforcing is a good idea. I do not believe it is a bad thing, but for pub servers I feel it should be off. (opinion)
By "cheat", I *don't* mean, start using wallhack or aimbot or pointy models.
I mean, to somehow avoid/bypass the consistancy check, so that I can use the models and sounds that I enjoy. I wouldn't feel bad/wrong about it either. I know I'm not giving myself any sort of unfair advantage.
I'm a cusom enthusiast. (http://members.optusnet.com.au/mwormald/ <- for qw)
if you don't like it go get all seeing eye and create a filter that gets out all servers with mp_modelconsistancy 1, simple enugh there are TONES of servers out there that have it set to 0, trust me
