Hom Effect In D3d.

I am experiencing a HOM effect when looking at skies running in D3d mode. This problem, however, does not persist in Open GL mode, which I do not use simply because it screws my system over. I recently installed the newest Nvidia Detonator drivers, and that is when this problem cropped up. Anyone know of this problem and have a work around or fix?

what is HOM effect? Anyway, i noticed there is some strange shimmer when i look at a wall, building indicator and almost everything from close in both D3D and OGl modes, but not in software, i dont have this problem in normal HL or other mods with same settings.

HoM effect means Hall of Mirrors.

It's like when you noclip out into the void when spectator or cheating in SinglePlayer. You'll see what I mean.

In general, if you're using a nVidia card, you'll want to use OpenGL.

    I just got a Geforce 2 MX 400 64mb yesterday.

I know it's not very good on today's standards, but its a hell of a lot better than my old ATI Rage Fury, and it was only $60 (cdn dollars)

copy from my other post on low FPS:

<!--QuoteBegin--></span><table border='0' align='center' width='95%' cellpadding='3' cellspacing='1'><tr><td><b>QUOTE</b> </td></tr><tr><td id='QUOTE'><!--QuoteEBegin-->The key thing is people run it in D3D.  HL was not coded for D3D thus running in D3D (even with todays newest and greatest vid cards) doesnt do well.  You WILL take a FPS hit when running in D3D on any HL game/mod.  Change it to OpenGL.  also on a side note, if any of you were wondering why sprays and decals didn't show...because those dont work in D3D eather.<!--QuoteEnd--></td></tr></table><span class='postcolor'><!--QuoteEEnd-->

/me slaps AnotherFoX around a bit with a large HL documentation...

Valve added D3D mode and it works WELL!

SPRAYS AND DECALS WORK IN DIRECT 3D !!!!!!!!!
You just have to change a CVAR:
set gl_polyoffset to a value from -0.1 to 0.1. Try to choose the best one. AND IT WILL WORK IN DIRECT 3D!!!
I played HL for a long time in D3D because I didn't have any GeForce card and I know what I'm speaking about.
