Server For Linux/ppc Or Darwin?

I have a computer that is running Darwin ( Apple's version of BSD and foundation to MacOS X) and would be interested in utilizing it as a NS server. Since there are only versions of the server for Linux/x86 and Win32 this is not possible, even if I did decide to install Linux/PPC.

What I would like to know is whether the NS development team would be willing to open the source to people wishing to develop for this platform? Does the server depend on closed libraries provided by Valve?

I do realise that the number of Darwin or Linux/PPC servers might be small in relation to the x86 counterparts, though the issue isn't there if the port is possible.

I'm running a NS server (or rather, I will be, once I get a new working keyboard) on a beige G3 running GNU/Debian. As far as I can tell, once a *nix system is installed on the computer, HLDS will work regardless of CPU architecture. I haven't tried it on any other PPC unixes, but I bet it'll work without source access. You just might have to move some library files around and maybe get a glibc-compat library for OS requirements.

How's the performance on that G3? Could you give us a few more specifics like clock speed, RAM and player slots?

    just curious

As far as I know the HL dedicated server binaries are x86 only. There have been multiple threads on the HLDS mailing list asking for the server to cover Sparc and PPC processors but VALVe doesn't seem to be interested in doing that.
