<div class="IPBDescription">Skulkcicle anyone?</div> Awright, I've been thinking about how to do an open map, and here goes.

On a frigid planet, TSA has set up a Kharaa research base. All goes well, untill a massive power failure allows the captive aliens to escape. When the power is restored, it's too late... A few days later, a marine squad is dropshipped into the base, following the science team's radio silence.

Right, so how do we make a feasable outdoor area? Bio-Dome? Nope, there go the r-speeds. Just try making a geodessic dome out of glass that is any useful size that doesn't kill the rspeeds. And, even if you did, whatabout a skulk hiding at the top? Ok, so whatabout a forcefield? Same rspeed problem.

So. How then? Nature. Extremely cold planet. Base is surrounded by an invisible (read: not actually there) field that allows them to pump heat and air into a bubble for the occupants to breathe. You can go out of this, but your body will freze almost instantly. <!--emo&:D--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/biggrin.gif' border='0' valign='absmiddle' alt='biggrin.gif'><!--endemo-->

You could have a emitter trak running around the base, to emphasize the area. It could be something like a helipad, with crates everywhere.

So, whadaya think guys?

    How about the "Bio Dome" calapsed because of ice and now the snow and ice are frozen in the shape of the dome. Also with the new parical system, you could have "breath" because its cold.

    Why not just put the dome in the skybox textures? No r_speed problem! It would look okay, it might light cool... a seriously huge dome.

    good idea also, except i cant do skies. Have to get a skyer for that one. But what about the out door part? if I wanted hills or something, it wouldn't restrict the play area that much. Well, i gues you could do something ala the electric fences in Aliens VS. Predator o_0
