    To save on the precious, precious bandwidth... and the eyes. There's nothing more annoying than loading 20 signature images per page, that take up entire screens. Just numbers we came up with for acceptability on both size/dimensions. <!--emo&:)--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/smile.gif' border='0' valign='absmiddle' alt='smile.gif'><!--endemo-->

    Because those are the rules?

    It was decided on that sze to make the forums easier for people on low speed connections, and also to the forums having more sig image rubbish than actual content.

    <!--QuoteBegin--></span><table border='0' align='center' width='95%' cellpadding='3' cellspacing='1'><tr><td><b>QUOTE</b> </td></tr><tr><td id='QUOTE'><!--QuoteEBegin-->Yo, why is it they can't be any longer/taller and have to be under that size?
    <!--QuoteEnd--></td></tr></table><span class='postcolor'><!--QuoteEEnd-->

    It is abit odd. A well compressed image which is less tall but wider could be EASILY smaller (in terms of bandwidth use) and provided it doesn't mess up the fact that the posts all show on one screen width who cares? (sigs which are too tall however would just bug me)

    Hell with the right compression and a black and white image you could make a huge sig far smaller than that size and people who said:

    <!--QuoteBegin--></span><table border='0' align='center' width='95%' cellpadding='3' cellspacing='1'><tr><td><b>QUOTE</b> </td></tr><tr><td id='QUOTE'><!--QuoteEBegin--> To save on the precious, precious bandwidth... <!--QuoteEnd--></td></tr></table><span class='postcolor'><!--QuoteEEnd-->

    Let me tell you something about the internet. The internet works with data. That data is moved around as..... <b>DATA</b>. The fact that you've sent an image that is <b>DISPLAYED</b> as 100000x100000 pixels does not effect the <b>ACCTUAL AMMOUNT OF DATA</b> that is sent.. So, if you make an image that is:

    <!--QuoteBegin--></span><table border='0' align='center' width='95%' cellpadding='3' cellspacing='1'><tr><td><b>QUOTE</b> </td></tr><tr><td id='QUOTE'><!--QuoteEBegin-->longer/taller and have to be under that size<!--QuoteEnd--></td></tr></table><span class='postcolor'><!--QuoteEEnd-->

    It will not have any effect what so ever on:

    <!--QuoteBegin--></span><table border='0' align='center' width='95%' cellpadding='3' cellspacing='1'><tr><td><b>QUOTE</b> </td></tr><tr><td id='QUOTE'><!--QuoteEBegin-->the precious, precious bandwidth<!--QuoteEnd--></td></tr></table><span class='postcolor'><!--QuoteEEnd-->

    BlueGhost

    PS. I'm sure you knew all this but as you burn people so much I thought I'd capatalise on your obvious miss-read of his post and have some fun, having re-read his post it is possible he means 'that size' as in th displayed size rather than the bandwidth size in which case you're right, but it'd be a shame to waste such a lot of work with my post. hehe. <!--emo&:D--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/biggrin.gif' border='0' valign='absmiddle' alt='biggrin.gif'><!--endemo-->

    Your point was made. I hope you had fun.

    Ultimately, it makes little difference in the reasoning. The bottom line, as stated by fam, is that...

    <!--QuoteBegin--></span><table border='0' align='center' width='95%' cellpadding='3' cellspacing='1'><tr><td><b>QUOTE</b> </td></tr><tr><td id='QUOTE'><!--QuoteEBegin-->
    Because those are the rules?
    <!--QuoteEnd--></td></tr></table><span class='postcolor'><!--QuoteEEnd-->
