Unit disobedience

What prevents it?
BTW, I just got here from a link from Penny Arcade, and I can't wait to play this thing. Looks great!

So what prevents a unit from just ignoring the commander's commands and blindly DMing all over the place?

Maybe you could award points or credits to players who obey the commander? And maybe give bonus points for speed in obeiance.

Thats the cool thing about NS, they're real people your commanding. I think most players will listen to the commander> If they dont, the commander can choose to just deprive the player of ammo and guns and watch him try to play Deathmatch style with a LMG. But just as in war movies, their will be Soldiers with as diverse of attitdes as the people that play them. It might actually be kinda cool to see some foolish marine get arrogant and be say "I refuse to defend, Im off to kill me some aliens" and see him traipse right into an alien ambush and get torn to shreds.

I wonder if the commander can prevent reenforcement points from going to a certain person...

Doesn't the commander allocate all Resource Points in terms of (most importantly) ammo and weapons? Are weapons purchased for each marine individually, or are they available to all team members once researched? For that matter, is there an inventory limit, or can a Marine carry one of each weapon type?

I know he could choose not to pay for an insta reinforcement for that guy, but I think everyone respawns, eventually. I htink there is a decent wait between respawns though, and my guess is that many commanders will utilize the "Insta-Spawn" to good effect, so the lone wolf will be left out in the rain.
Commanders are in complete control of all resourceing and cosntruction (Well, in theory, a marine team could refuse to build a structure that the commander orders, but . . . nah)

I think marines start with an LMG, a pistol, and a knife, but that's about it.

If someone disobeys orders and goes off on his own...

    A) It's not that big of a deal

    B) If the commader thinks it is a problem, he won't give him anymore ammo

    C) If it becomes a really big problem, he simply opts to not respawn him...

(In other words, what everyone else said... oops.)

Wow, so the commander controls all respawning. I guess thats cool. One question though, can players who arent spawned still cote off a commander, cause I can envision a mean commander keeping a bunch oif nice players in limbo and just respawning who he wants. Then again no, because he needs all the man power he can get. But, what if the player is just a sad nooby or nobody with no skill (me) and is left to spectate half the game, like a benchwarmer on a soccer team.

Now I argue with myself, I guess it would be realistic though.

The commander can only opt to have someone respawn. He can't select which player it is.

That would be unfair to keep tons of marines in limbo and just spawn the ones you want. 'Cuz, if I manage to scrounge up enough resources I can spawn them all and do a suicide rush wreaking havoc along the way. Massive outnumbering of aliens would be very bad.

    Right, glad you clarified that.
I worded my repsonse bad. And I was more or less joking around.

Sorry for the confusion... I'll be more careful next time :/
