<div class="IPBDescription">motion upgrade for THAT obs only?</div> does taking out a motion upgraded observatory mean they need to research motion on their new obs all over again?

if so, its quite a good idea to rush it esp on comms that do the obs rush

Nope, marines keep their upgrades even though their tech building is destroyed. OTOH, commanders won't be able to use distress beacon and can't scanner sweep.

AND aliens can cloak in marine base, so just cloak near the Spawn portal, marine spawns, Kill, recloak, get yelled at by the marines, then laugh and destroy the Infantry portal to stop their whining.

didn't the manual mention something about motion tracking only works for a range around the observatory, and that the range is large enough that 1 obs will cover most of the map?

thus taking out the observatory will take out the motion?

Even though they don´t loose the motion tracking, you disable their ability in phase rushes, to build more gates. They can of course build another, but you hurt them by making them build another.

I'm not completely sure if it's true that marines can't make phasegates after their observatory is destroyed, i could still make an prototypelab after my armslab was destroyed.

The upgrade is already researched, but they lose motion tracking until they build a new one.

I'm not sure if they lose the resources if it dies while they are researching.

Okay, so just to recap:

If you destroy their observetory, motion tracking goes down, but as soon as they build a new observetory, it will become an advanced observetory instantly because motion tracking has already been researched once.

I suppose this is true for other research items as well? I.E. destory their Prototype Lab, and **obscenity** oon as they build a new one they get back HA and Jetpacks and whatever else tyhey had before without having to research it again?

Sorry, I was wrong. I tested and once it is learned, it is there regardless of whether or not the building is there. After motion tracking goes up, killing the obs does not make motion tracking stop.

I think this is true of the armor/damage upgrades as well.

Killing an obs/arms lab does not make motion/upgrades go away. recycling these buildings for quick cash, can sometimes be advantageous. If you lose the obs, you CANNOT make phase gates, but if you lose the Arms Lab you can still make a protoype lab. This is probably a bug.

Best chance to hurt em early, is to rush thier obs and kill it everytime, Motion tracking takes about 2 minutes to research, if you kill the Obs in that time, the lose observatory, AND the res for Motion tracking. Obs is what I usually go for in a rush (that is if most of my team survives and they eat the infantry portals) It can prove to be very costly for the marines, and if your lucky, you get the added benefit of trapping some marines at a hive with no phase gate (or no phase gate at marine spawn, depends if the comm had time to drop one) AND no distress beacon (Comm "Quick, I need all but 2 of you to kill yourselves Ill distress beacon you all back in, HURRY!!!" Marine: "Are you Crazy?? NO WAY" Comm: "Just do it, If we lose base your all dead" Marine: "okay" <skulk kills obs just as marines suicide> Comm : "#$@%!!!!" Skulk: Chuckles, then eats infantry potals)
