<div class="IPBDescription">Tired of that little cross?</div> I have made two crosshairs for NS thus far. One for marines and one alien. The response so far has been great ...
Unzip these files too your ns\sprites DIR.
MARINE (Click the PIC for the x-hair ZIP)

<a href='http://www.clanvicious.com/files/sprites/weapontxtfiles.zip' target='_blank'><b><span style='color:blue'>The TXT Files</span></b></a>

<a href='http://www.clanvicious.com/files/sprites/alientxt.zip' target='_blank'><b><span style='color:blue'>Here are the TXT fiels ... for the lazy ones. You KNOW who you are! </span></b><!--emo&:D--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/biggrin.gif' border='0' valign='absmiddle' alt='biggrin.gif'><!--endemo--></a>
Here is a quick run down of how to change your weapon.tx files for those who care to know.
These are based on the MARINE weapons only & you will need to replace this line in these files: (also in your ns\sprites DIR)
<ul>
weapon_grenadegun.txt
weapon_heavymachinegun.txt
weapon_knife.txt
weapon_pistol.txt
weapon_shotgun.txt
weapon_machinegun.txt
weapon_welder.txt
</ul>
Here is the modification you need to make. Find this line in each file:
<b>crosshair 640 crosshairs 24 0 24 24</b>
duplicate it DIRECTLY below its self, and add the two "//" to the begining
<b>crosshair 640 crosshairs 24 0 24 24</b>
<b>// crosshair 640 crosshairs 24 0 24 24 - this is the ORIGINAL</b>
Now, modify the line w/o the "//" and make it look like this
<b>crosshair 640 <span style='color:red'>cvns1 0 0 32 32</span></b>
<b>crosshair 640 <span style='color:red'>cvns2 0 0 32 32</span></b> If you want the <span style='color:green'><b>GREEN</b></span> one
<b>// crosshair 640 crosshairs 24 0 24 24</b>
Save the file, and repeat the process for the others. Done!
Have Fun!
Unzip these files too your ns\sprites DIR.

I think it would be neat if you could make different ones for each weapon. Right now (with the default crosshairs), I sometimes can't really see what weapon is currently active...

That would not be difficult at all. You could also use the same CH with a different color for the assorted weapons.
I will be making more soon ... I just can't help myself! <!--emo&???--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/confused.gif' border='0' valign='absmiddle' alt='confused.gif'><!--endemo-->
They are nice though, dont get me wrong there <!--emo&:)--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/smile.gif' border='0' valign='absmiddle' alt='smile.gif'><!--endemo-->
My fav crosshair of all time is a white dot in the center of the screen, by far the best crosshair ever made!<!--QuoteEnd--></td></tr></table><span class='postcolor'><!--QuoteEEnd-->
The server does not check sprites, only MDLs.
The sprites are yours to do as you see fit.
Yes ive unzipped the text files to the NS directory
and i don't think me running it in Direct3D mode is the problem...since the alien xhair works just fine..
Suggestion.... try to make them kinda look like a alien style... for the alien one... hard to explain..
looks good
me dl and try

Did you unzip it to the NS DIR ...
... or the ns\sprites DIR where it needs to be?
/me goes into a corner mumbling something
it completely takes my crosshair away, goddamnit

If it removes them all together, then you have one of a couple problems.
You either ...
a) did not extract the weapon.txt & sprite files to the SPRITES folder
b) extracted one or the other, but not both
c) extracted them to the wrong directory
They have to go in the <b>half-life\ns\sprites</b> folder
If you do everything correct and extraxct the files (not modify yours) for BOTH sets of crosshairs, you will have replaced all of these:
<b>weapon_grenadegun.txt
weapon_heavymachinegun.txt
weapon_knife.txt
weapon_pistol.txt
weapon_shotgun.txt
weapon_machinegun.txt
weapon_welder.txt
weapon_acidrocketgun.txt
weapon_bilebombgun.txt
weapon_blink.txt
weapon_healingspray.txt
weapon_paralysis.txt
weapon_parasite.txt
weapon_spikegun.txt
weapon_spit.txt
weapon_spore.txt
</b>
and added these:
<b>cvns1.spr or cvns2.spr
cvns3.spr</b>
I hope that this helps.
No matter...I found some other marine sprites in the model forum which seem to work fine...
..I'm still keeping your alien xhair though =D
cvns3.spr" in the zip file.. dur..?

There are 5 seperate ZIP files. The SPRITES are NOT in with the XTT files. (Some folks DON'T want their TXT files overwritten so I made them seperate)
Just DL the sprites, and place them in the folder with the TXT files and that sdhould take care of your issue.
I got this from the HL forums.
<!--QuoteBegin--></span><table border='0' align='center' width='95%' cellpadding='3' cellspacing='1'><tr><td><b>QUOTE</b> </td></tr><tr><td id='QUOTE'><!--QuoteEBegin-->This is a very common problem and searching google with CL_Flushentitypacket will bring up lots and lots of
people with similar problems and some tips to try to reduce it.
Now I am a analogue modem user (56k) and the best advice I have read is to get cable or Isdn as this message appears when there is packet loss between your connection and the server you are playing on.
However getting cable or isdn is not a cheap solution so I have managed to reduce my frustration a lot by doing the following;
1) disable speach perminatly from the settings menu inside TFC.
2) turn off uploades and downloads of decals. When someone joins a game if they have a colour logo it will be uploaded to the server and then your connection has to download it during play. They look nice but they sure as hell lag you.
3) make sure you have no other internet activity when playing (msn messanger? yahoo messengar etc) so all that is running is TFC giving you full use of your bandwidth for the game
4) Always play on the fast servers, and not over populated servers. I find I get the best games on servers with at least 7/8 stars and where there are no more than 16 current players. However somtimes you will find even fast servers have problems.
Try to use the faster servers normally if I get this a lot when I am playing, I will just close down and retry on another server (also make sure your connection is at least 50k anythign lower will result in problems) <!--QuoteEnd--></td></tr></table><span class='postcolor'><!--QuoteEEnd-->
That is SOOO weird.
Sorry man, that is something I have NEVER seen before ... and I have probably 150 sprites. Odd ....
In order to get the green one to work, just replace anything that says "cvns1" with "cvns2" in the weapons TXT file. You should be good to go ... ohh, glad you like!
Thanks again for the crosshairs they are very nice looking.
