<div class="IPBDescription">From 4/12 through 4/14</div>Hey everyone.  Here are some pictures from our playtest this weekend.  Note: the alien models you see in these pictures are placeholder models (with one exception, the long lean alien with orange eyes).  These placeholder models will be replaced with our own artwork when it's finished.

Enjoy!

Pics look great flayra, can't express how good this mod is looking.  Just a question, and this can be answered by any of the playtesters I suppose, but how did it go?  Were there any horrid bugs?  any huge unbalances?  Or was everything peachy?  Obviously if there wasn't much that went wrong, I can take it as an indication that we are VERy close to release <!--emo&:)--><img src="http://www.natural-selection.org/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/smile.gif" border="0" valign="absmiddle" alt=':)'><!--endemo-->

highlander, sadly, i doubt that NS is fairly close to release, there is alot that is not done in terms of models, animations, coding, gui, and such.  However, most main gameplay features are there, just need tweaking ever so often. There are a lot of suggestions lately in the playtester forums and such and even around here on the general topics, so flay might spend a bit more time implementing and/or tweaking/adding these small but very helpful things in.  I know there isn't a set release date or anything, but in my eyes, this mod is better to be done awesome, then rushed and imcomplete, which in its current state, doesn't look to bright for may or even june.  That all depends on how hard flay and the team work though, let's just hope!

I don't really agree, Cyanide.  As far as coding goes, there's not too much to go, with the main exception being alien weapons and abilities.  Nearly everything else is complete, coding-wise.  Artwork-wise, our player models are all modelled, and almost completely textured.  They do still need to be animated and put in game.  The definite two official maps are essentially done.  Lastly, the weapon models, do need a bit of work still.  There are 5 alien view models to go, along with a couple marine weapons.  There is also some HUD artwork to do (noteably, the marine HUD from the ground needs work).

hehe, sorry, i was basing everything that i new off of the palytest, and that was a bit... incomplete <!--emo&:)--><img src="http://www.natural-selection.org/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/smile.gif" border="0" valign="absmiddle" alt=':)'><!--endemo--> sorry!

Oooo... New screen shots. The game looks pretty damn good.

To address the finishing issue... I can wait. As people have said, we'd rather have an awesome mod, even if it will take time, rather than a rushed one. Good things come to those who wait. Unless you're waiting around in an Alien hive.

All potential alien builders:  Note what MonsE is doing in that first pic.  Best alien building strategy ever.  It's a shame that most of the time we're too busy trying to stay alive to remember to take some real nice action shots.

I was wondering that myself. Thought that could be some sort of waypoint? Or maybe the direction of the commander console? I'm going to stop spewing ideas forth and wait for a real answer. <!--emo&;)--><img src="http://www.natural-selection.org/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/wink.gif" border="0" valign="absmiddle" alt=';)'><!--endemo-->

Well, these pictures are looking great, just as most of the other stuff I have seen on this homepage. I only just discovered that this mod existed, and I must say I am very impressed by what I have seen so far and I am definately looking forward to it's first release.

Those screenies are beautiful.  Just curious what the playtesters are running, hardware wise, and what kind of FPS they get.  I hope it would run fine on my main machine (1ghz P3, GeForce 2, 256MB ram) because being a college student really hammers into the budget and I'd have no money to upgrade anything.

Sounds like it will run fine on your computer. It is an awesome-looking mod, but I doubt the system requirements will be much greater than that of the original HL. GE 2 should be able to handle the graphics. <!--emo&;)--><img src="http://www.natural-selection.org/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/wink.gif" border="0" valign="absmiddle" alt=';)'><!--endemo-->

Being an AvP Player practicly since it come out and more recentally CS and Games alike. I was amazed to find such a well contrusted and well thought out game to be produced as a MOD.

The idea of a RTS FPS has been somthing that has crossed my mind from at times, but i would never i have believed that the production of such a game existed without c'ing it my'self.
Being an obvious "n00b" to the existance of NS, i can only comment with amazment and child like joy(heh)
For now im secretly hoping NS isnt made public till after may otherwise i know im gonna fail my A-Levels <!--emo&:)--><img src="http://www.natural-selection.org/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/smile.gif" border="0" valign="absmiddle" alt=':)'><!--endemo-->

Wow.  Just .... wow.  One concern though.  To view these screen shots I have to crank the brightness up on my monitor as high as it will go.  Are we going to able to see anything in this mod?  I'm all for sneaking up on Marines in dark hallways but I'd like to be able to see the hallway.

Also, do aliens get any special sensory perks? (Better night vision?) Besides the radar of course.
  • MoleculorMoleculor Namer-of-Bob Join Date: 2002-01-24 Member: 9Members
Umm.. well, the more recent sets of shots should be at the correct brightness level, due to the fact that Flayra posted the forumla for fixing the screenshots to the correct env_gamma levels... so if you're having to crank the brightness for something like <a href="http://www.natural-selection.org/cgi-bin/ikonboard/ikonboard.cgi?act=ST;f=4;t=1639;st=30" target="_blank">this</a> or <a href="http://www.natural-selection.org/cgi-bin/ikonboard/ikonboard.cgi?act=ST;f=4;t=1604" target="_blank">this</a>, then you've got something wrong with the gamma settings on your video card, or your monitor is going kaput.

well there obviously are a few bugs to work out, becuase seeing how the screeen shots dont vocer that much of the whole game and i see an error in the picture with teh marine resource nod where it's floating a foot above the vent there must eb a few bugs to work out, as for it being VERy close i'd say a month or two at <i>most</i>

in the first pic; is this fair? the marines obviously have a hard job getting that high, and then taking the buildings down too is hard.. is this one of the features, it looks like the aliens have a huge advantage there..
  • GreedoGreedo Bounty Hunter Join Date: 2002-01-24 Member: 37Members, NS1 Playtester, Contributor
Shuvit, it is most definitely fair.  If the marines get jetpacks, they can get up there and destroy the buildings, but otherwise they stay and give the aliens a bit of a chance of overcoming the loss of a hive or two.  Hiding the upgrade structures is a very good strategy, I've found.

And about that thing in the second shot, it is a waypoint, yes.
  • WurmspawnWurmspawn Join Date: 2002-01-24 Member: 19Members
the better a builder is the more clever hiding places he finds for his structures.  those pesky lugheads always fill them with lead and upset me.

It is a level 4, but it is only a placeholder model, so it won't look like that once the game is released.
  • KheldarKheldar Join Date: 2002-01-25 Member: 64Members
ok... it have stand veary little about the lvl 4 so i really want to know more about it...
