Sound Not Working

I've just installed Natrual Selection, but I can't get any ingame sound at all
When it first loads all the menu sounds work fine, but as soon as the game starts all I get is silence. I've tried playing with the nosound, volume etc. commands but they don't do anything.
Also on pressing esc all the menu sounds are muted now.
I've tried messing with the sound settings, but nothing seems to help.
All other HL mods work fine (no sound probs online).
My computer is an AthlonXP 1600 1.4ghz, 512 meg ram, Gigabit VIA chipset m/b (AC97 audio) and a GeForce3 Ti (not that it would affect the sound?)
Anyone know what's going on?
