We need more textures captain!
I am beginning to make a map but the ns.wad seems alittle "thin", sort of like my wallet. Is there anyone here working on additional textures, or does anyone know of some good sites that have textures which keep the NS theme? Doesnt have to be exactly NS type of textures but something close to it. Especially metal type ones.
Thanks in advance.
Thanks in advance.

Oh, so many textures.
Now that there's someone who actually really WANTS new textures, I might just post what I've come up with lately. See, I'm making a map with mostly (or entirely) custom textures, and I wouldn't mind sharing them... however, I'm constantly changing and updating my WADs.
Once I have a whole bunch, I'll post a final-version WAD that my map will draw off of (I want everything to stay in one WAD to prevent people from needing to download the same textures for several maps over and over).
I can post a WAD before the map that uses the textures is finished, because I'll just start on a second WAD and use that one too.
So expect several new WADs for everyone to use. My only wish is that everyone gives me credit somehow (as usual), keeps the textures in MY WAD (No mixing and matching, plz) and doesn't use them in anything besides an NS map without my permission.
I've attached a preview of some of the textures I've come up with so far, for your viewing pleasure. They will be included in the first WAD. (I like saying WAD. WAD WAD WAD!)
[EDIT] I thought it was a given, but please DO NOT USE THE PREVIEW PIC TO MAKE YOUR OWN TEXTURES. The textures shown there are MY work, and the preview is only a preview. When I issue the WAD, the textures may be used for any NS map. The WAD must NOT be modified or copied in whole or in part without my permission. Intellectual property is intellectual PROPERTY, and stealing is bad.
Lastly, I've considered removing the attachment, but I'm going to trust people (after someone already stole from it, aren't I a saint?)
I'm working on some new textures myself, but I am no texture artist. When and if I manage to put together a wad I'll post it for da masses.
Here is a new alien texture I cooked up.

More on the way!
Make the shadows more dramatic, and it'll give the texture a real feeling of depth. Use the burn tool (I assume you have photoshop), and it will generally end up looking a bunch better. Add some strokes, and make sure it fades out at the edges. About 10% allows you to finetune the shadows.
Also, some more realistic damge could be nice. And a noise/crosshatch low opacity layer behind and on top of copies of the texture (top copy at medium to high opacity) will give a slightly more realistic feel to the metal. There's probably other filters I'm forgetting, but I didn't want to spend too much time on this, just enough to give you a feel for what can be done.
by the way, these textures look so much better on a dark background than on this white bleh.
my biggest problem at the moment is id like to use alot of the textures but i cant because its only 1 or two.... if there were some variety in it i could use em more
Put me on your mailing list for the .wad your release, I want it. It looks great thus far!

Thanks!
However, I tend to use a scaling of 1, so too much depth makes stuff I want to look sharp look too blobby. However, I must admit your 'chunkier' shading looks good (but its just not my style ) Also, I tend to make textures with shadows on both sides of a bevel (so they look lit from the top instead of off to the side), which might ruin the depth a little but makes the texture look better when viewed on an angled plain (I guess I'm just picky, most textures with bevels are lit at an angle and look okay under most lighting.)
SneakyMouse, maybe someone oughta start up a texturing tutorial thread! I mostly use PS 7, along with a few miscellaneous tools. I might use LightWave 3D for some more 3D-ish, advanced textures later. Texturing takes a lot of skill, however, and a lot of time.
I'm off to go Christmas shopping!
2 questions...
1) When can I get my hands on these textures. They look great, and I'd love to use them in my map, but if I dont want to have to re-texture my level later, so the sooner I could get my hands on them the better..
2) are you the same evil that makes textures for Quake 3?

The only names I've used (with the exception of a few really bad ones a few years ago) is evoL:ving:eviL and a version of my RW name.
As for the textures, since everyone is clamoring for more, I'll try to get the first pack out before the end of the holidays. This will be pack 1 of the 'gir' texture set (the dark metal textures) which will probably be named gir_textures1.wad or something. 'Gir' is the name of the robot from Invader Zim, since the map I made the textures for had a stupid name (ns_nuclear) so I picked a random 3-letter word.
The first 'arc' texture pack will be coming soon too, which is part of the ns_corian texture set (which was called 'sig') but I renamed them because I'm using them in another map, ns_arcarna (hence the 'arc').
This is a very long-winded way of saying "I'll put up teh textures soon as I can. Its nice that you all like them "
A board for textureing would also be great on here.
I suggested a Map Exchange like on Valve-Erc, and a Texture Board or Exchange would also be a good addition.
SOMEONE FIX IT, PLEASE!
Fam, also ur textures are good, but the wall textures are a bit bland, for eg, beautiful golden pipes on a just grey wall on the clang floor, use a major transparency on the dodge layer.
Are good also the topic starter textures...no comments seen there are already good criticism

Anyone interested??
Also, nice work from everyone here with those custom textures. I gotta say, CrAck, that alien infestation texture is nice. Little different direction with it, but it's very cool.

Post your textures there.
