<div class="IPBDescription">for all you sadists out there...</div> instead of getting adrenaline, get silence <!--emo&:D--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/biggrin.gif' border='0' valign='absmiddle' alt='biggrin.gif'><!--endemo-->

i had AMAZING fun today swooping down on marines and biting them apart from midair before they realized anything was happening <!--emo&:p--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/tounge.gif' border='0' valign='absmiddle' alt='tounge.gif'><!--endemo-->

since lerks have a little easier access to the highest points of a level than skulks do, you have even greater stealth/surprise.

the only downside is all the fades that will whine for umbra <!--emo&:)--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/smile.gif' border='0' valign='absmiddle' alt='smile.gif'><!--endemo-->

    Nice idea, but you can't really stay in the air that long without adrenaline.

    Use the glide, Luke. You just can't fly and shoot spikes/umbra for long. I'll have to try this since I like silence so much.

    And when you land and start to bite, they meerly breathe on you and your dead. For combat you need umbra for that you need adren.

    the idea is to bite them in midair so you don't have to land <!--emo&:p--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/tounge.gif' border='0' valign='absmiddle' alt='tounge.gif'><!--endemo-->

    The ability to attack someoen while airborn is a big asset for the lerk, but does take a fair amount of practice as well as a good knowledge ofj ust how far your jaws reach (which is actually a decent distance)

    I find bite underused. It actually does quite a hefty amount of damage (50). If you have no more energy for spikes, try walking/flying towards a marine and just BITE. They'll probably be reloading by the time you have no NRG.

    Also, their small targets so pistol don't hurt on the hands of an average shooter. Coming from above... however, doesn't work very well IMO. Their flapping of wings is WAAAAAAAY too loud to be good enough unless you get silence.

    I heard a rumor bite is glitched and even does 75. I dont know. I hardly ever use spikes now. I usually dive bomb in, umbra, and bite their ankles.
    If they run out of umbra range, ill try and shoot em a few spikes then.

    Intentional or not, lerk bite currently does 75.
  • MrPinkMrPink Join Date: 2002-05-28 Member: 678Members
    it was changed from 50 to 75 prior to release, just another error in the autohelp system

    it's meant to do the same as skulk bites, which is is 75. it's intentional

    Being able to effectively snap at a marine's head while airborne is rediculously satisfying once the acknowledgement of the kill comes up for all to see. It's great when there's a skulk or two skittering around the floor so the marines are focusing on ground-based enemies, then glide down, snap, and hope for the kill.

    I love it. <!--emo&:)--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/smile.gif' border='0' valign='absmiddle' alt='smile.gif'><!--endemo-->

    Lerk bite appears to me to do more actual damage than skulk bite. This is based entirely off of me thinking "hey, this turret dies faster when I bite it with Lerk" while I was doing so, so I might just be nuts, but I think the lerk bite is a bit more lethal. Which would make sense, given the fact that a) you paid 33 res. for that Lerk and b) it's MUCH harder to get a bite in on a marine than it is with a skulk. Especially at low framerates...
  • Error404Error404 Join Date: 2002-11-19 Member: 9353Members
    Yeah, I think that too, I think a Lerk's bite has better amor penetration than a skulk's.
  • OWAOWA Join Date: 2002-12-22 Member: 11322Members
    I dunno about it being harder to bite with the lerk than the skulk, my killrate zooms once I evolve to lerk, and I almost never use spikes.

    IMO Lerk bite should do more dmg ... I mean cmon look at them big teeth, their twice the size of the skulk teeth and just look like they own <!--emo&:D--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/biggrin.gif' border='0' valign='absmiddle' alt='biggrin.gif'><!--endemo-->

    I'll try biting marines as Lerk more ... <!--emo&;)--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/wink.gif' border='0' valign='absmiddle' alt='wink.gif'><!--endemo-->

    And an error in the manual. I wonder if someone has a complete list of manual corrections?

    Lerk biting is especially difficult but insanely more fun

    I've been trying to work my strategy for close quarters combat. Using Umbra, I will try for a few bites and then tap my jump button a couple times to get air time for a few spikes. Then try to fall back down for a couple bites

    keeping enough energy is a <!--emo&:angry:--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/mad.gif' border='0' valign='absmiddle' alt='mad.gif'><!--endemo--> but it sure is deadly

    PS: Lerks are the best....Fades, who needs 'em
  • OttoDestructOttoDestruct Join Date: 2002-11-08 Member: 7790Members
    Lerks are very good, but the problem is their cost. Usually in games by the time you have 33 resources for a lerk, fades are just around the corner. Methinks with shotgun and HMG price lowering lerk price needs lowered as well...
