Hi

just recently on vast majority of servers i started getting this message that stops me joining

"Server is enforcing consistency in Models/shell.mdl"

i dont get this on other half life games and i aint modified NS in any way
just downloaded the thing and installed it

anyone got any ideas on how to fix it?

    I dunno how to fix this, but reinstalling should do the trick.

    ...and I just got to ventilate my frustration with mp_consistency! It's so much **obscenity** **obscenity**! I installed some nice custom models the other day, but when I was gonna try them out, 19/20 servers had mp_consistency "1". I mean, wtf?! You might as well just ban all modifications from the mod with a server-setting like that. If someone wants to hax wiht the skins (whatever you can do with a skin to make you play better, dunno) is going to get around this anyway. You might as well remove that silly setting so those of us who like to have custom weaps and skins can use 'em.

    go to your Half-Life/ns/Models/ directory and erase shell.mdl (i can only find pshell.mdl)

    then you might be able to get the server to download the proper one (cl_allowdownload 1) to you, or download mine (<a href='http://home.attbi.com/~jacek/pshell.mdl' target='_blank'>pshell.mdl</a>) and place it in your Models directory

    When installing new skins/graphics, its always good to first rename the old file (for example old_pshell.mdl) and leave it in the proper directory instead of erasing it.

    Downloading the 1.03 server patch will take care of this problem, even if you're not a server op. As for WHY it was put in... it's simple. People use altered models to give themselves an unfair advantage. Yes, it's unfortunate that legit custom models get lost in the process, but for fairness it's really the only solution.

    [edit]And Trikk... I understand you might be frustrated by forced model consistancy, and you have every right to be. If you use ASE, you can set a filter to search for servers that don't enforce it. And please, if you're going to bring your complaint to the forums, try to be a little more mature about it. Swearing only shows up as the rather amusingly impotent "** obscenity **," and really doesn't impress anyone.

    coil, you're a doll. I've been having this problem for quite some time now, and my solution was to play on other servers.. Now I don't have to do that (I never changed my models, so I don't know why it wouldn't work)!
