Er.. I think it's okay in NS
I have this fear of camping, its a throwback from my CS intensive days. In CS everyone hates a camper, and I never camped in CS, in NS tho' nobody seems to mind if you camp because whichever way you see it, in NS it can be seen as a defensive or offensive tactic.
Assuming I haven't been parasited, I can be just as sneaky as skulks and wait around the corner of a regular skulk route and camp until a skulk blindly walks past me and then I plaster them with bullets, and they don't have time to know what hit them.
I think the reason the skulks are so successful at killing marines is because they do camp, and the marines don't. A few marines camped out in the right places can be more effective than loads of turrets. Of course after a while the aliens will catch onto your camping spot, so you have to keep moving.
Camping in a group outside the base can also be the key to preventing a skulk rush. The trick is to be as quiet as possible, ie, not use your radio (which kharaa can hear), and if you need to move, then move while crouching. Make sure you don't carry a parasite too.
NS is campers heaven!

- a marine camping in vents vs skulks is lame. [due to the hit-box issue]
- a marine camping the top of a ladder vs skulks is lame. [since their feet are invulnerable]
- a marine camping with a welder in an annoying spot vs skulks is a bit lame.
An HA/jetpack marine camping anywhere is just depressing.
Camping with marines is a little hard to do though, there are very few good places to camp, but when you do, it can actually take down something huge like fades who actually pushes it. Eg. in Ns_Nothing, you can hide on the lower level in the miasma walkway and a fade will attack from the right side. If they overcommit, up the ladder and unload everything you have on them while their still in the rather narrow hallway.
to quote and rephrase an old saying:
dont exploit the game code (hurt noone) and do what you will.

Besides, since the game is about taking and holding important areas in a map, you basically HAVE to camp in order to win.
Such as 1 marine camping in the middle of nowhere when the comm is trying to get you to move to a hive.

A marine camping in the vents is fine, I mean its a vent skulks are going to die befor they get halfway towards you.
A marine camping with a wealder in an annoying spot vs a skulk?
Use parasite on him ffs.
Jetpack is DESIGNED to camp, its exactly the same as lurks, lurks have got the only 100% accurate gun (ignoring the pistol ) in the game they're built to sit somewhere MILES away on the ceiling and camp.
TBH I see no problem attal of camping in NS, I didn't really have a problem with it in CS (except it was just dull). They're both stratigic games, as such ambushing your enemy is a good idea as it makes your enemy easier to kill. No commander worth their salt in any situation is going to say: 'OK guys lets give them a chance, lets all draw our knives and run around till we see them THEN bring out our guns.'

Oh hell no. Camping in a vent is NOT fine when the lousy hitbox config makes that solid 6 bites that you just landed on him point blank completely ineffective. That's just exploiting a bug in the game.
Jetpack:
- the best way to get around walls of lame
- the best way to totally bypass alien defences
- the best way to kill a hive
- the fastest way to move marines around a map, after phase gates
- the best way to get into inaccessible places
- the most annoying way to fight hive 1 aliens
- pre 1.03, the only way to kill aliens camping in vents
To me, it doesn't seem like the jetpack was designed as camping equipment.
"A marine camping in the vents is fine, I mean its a vent skulks are going to die befor they get halfway towards you." - I wouldn't have a problem with the hitbox if I never managed to get there...
Camping *is* fine, and if the commander wants to spend resources on camping equipment then he can.
However, camping which exploits bugs is very lame IMHO.
