1.04, A Big Success? Or Big Bomb?

<div class="IPBDescription">My opinion, now yours...</div> I just played a round of that 1.04 stuff... my god. that was a horrible round. Some of the changes i agree with. but when viewed from the other team i disagree with it. The siege thing is great for aliens, bad for marines. We had sieges and a little base with phase and all got destroyed due to lack of funds from new phase costs and a few other changes.
Horrible, horrible update. I have agreed with the Dev team all the time since now... god this was awful.

BTW: this is not meant to be offensive to the Dev team, gread mod still... just the update needs to be redone.

i have been playing in the gwb (full of newbes btw) and a bit of homeland (not AS much newbes) i have seen the rounds go both ways now, phase gate rushing is toned down a bit and the seage is now used as what is was indended for, backing up an assult (insted of leading it and doing ALL of the work)

I play in the UK too and can't wait for it but I guess I'll have to <!--emo&:p--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/tounge.gif' border='0' valign='absmiddle' alt='tounge.gif'><!--endemo--> best thing is it should help prevent the marine strategies of phase & siege rush that seem to predominate recently. a longer middle game where it can go either way should help a lot.
Oh and cindows, try playing more than one round eh?

But being able to combat siege bases (by not lettin' the M's get LOS as easily) will be GREAT.

Well, first off to respond to you, i have never said the mod sucks, and never said burn the mod. I said it needs more work on balancing issues. Demerzel your an idiot. I already responded saying all rounds i have played aliens have won. Have you played it yet? Also how am I over reacting? I mearly made a statement suggesting their is balance issues. Also I have still noticed there is alot of acid spamming if that is what you call it.
I think it is a better update if you play aliens, otherwise you are in for a treat as a marine. An alien treat that is.

Acid rocket needed a nerf, shotguns would be fine at 15 res cost.

Anyone with a brain can win in 1.04, we simply got jetpacks, sat 4 marines down to protect the siege and had 2 fly into their base, I sat on the hive, another sat in the corner and voila, 2 minutes later dead hive

Now if you don't believe the developers that its out go find yourself a test server
from reading the changes, it seems the marines have been nerfed yet again... coming from a server with regulars who are pros at alien, this'll only make the marines lose a lot more. i won't say any more though, as i'll have to play a few games of 1.04 before i make a decision on it.
A lot of people complained about certain elements in the game, mainly seiges and when they were fixed, a lot of people complained again.
How about you accept what the DEV Team is trying to do and develope some different strategies!
I have no grudge or complaint with the 1.04 beta testing patch. It's actually made the game just a little more different because of it. The Marines are now getting weapons much faster and upgrades. The Aliens are being forced to almost work as a team. It's becoming better and better each day.
I am very grateful the model exploit has been fixed. Thank you DEV Team!
Sensor Sweep works as well. But, as with other aspects in the patch, the Sensor Sweep has been upped in price.
Ultimately, I was a little dissipointed to see that there were a few minor nerfs to Marines in 1.04. I was expecting the Khaara were going to be on the end of the nerf stick. This is probably because I generally play on 16 player servers. However, I am relieved to say that I think 1.04 adds more to the Marines than it takes away. Having motion tracking work on ALL SERVERS will help the marines ALOT. Cheaper shotguns are good too. Upgraded armories having their durability fixxed will help. Fade acid rocket AOE will also help, although that's not really much of a nerf.
Siege was just a little too easy to get a victory. It's really not so much nerfed in 1.04 as it was changed to require more strategy to use. I for one was getting just a bit sick of cowardous marines hiding behind their vast turret factories and letting their siege do all the work. I can understand this for a wall of arse, but sticking siege cannons in unlikely places in order to tie down hives and/or multiple resource nozzles was a bit much.
There will be some adjustment time to formulate strategies to take best advantage of 1.04 just like there was 1.03. It'll hurt t first, but we can't say for sure how screwed up things are until after we experiment a bit. Don't be too quick to say the version sucks until then.
Phase gates are the one that really hurts. You are already streched for cash and now they are more expensive and weaker. Also IPs are more expensive. This means that at the start of the game marines are even farther behind.
The seige turret is also takeing a big hit. It is nice to have one up in a secured hive and know it is safe from aggesive building. Now a builder can drop a few OT/DT towers just around the corner and few good skuls with caraprice could take it all out falling back for a few heals.
I think a large part of the balance issue is that IF you have a team of marines who know what they are doing (ie clan match) the game favors them (aliens start very weak and need the second hive to really stand a chance). Iif marines secure one hive and make second one hard to grab they will win. Unfortunatly you rarely get a team who works together like that. So advantage aliens.
There is no way to fix the n00b problem. But makeing marines weaker just compounds the issue in my opinion.
