This Is Not Working Wth Is The Problem...

<div class="IPBDescription">We should have won..</div> Most of the time I am commanding. Either from the beginning or from taking over a noob comm. Well it all started on hera. I build our main base then we moved on to reception. Things were going not so well mainly because my troops wouldn't go as a group. I finally got reception and then sieges holoroom. After a good sieging of holoroom I then took it with phase gates and everything. Although I did not take a hive early I keep making sure no one was building in it (trust me they defeated us with 2 hives). After I had goten holoroom and reception I then began to research upgrades and get HA/HMG. (I had a VERY good res flow, and still they hadn't taken that hive I watched). Holoroom started to fall to fades which I couldn't do anything about since my troops couldn't seem to hold them off. So I got HA/HMG mid game and loaded half my squad with HA/HMG so I thought "man we can have this game so bad". Still no activity in that hive I kept watching. I tried to make a campaign to archiving but they all died so then I had them try and get datacore. No success. By now I didnt have the res to hand out a lot of HA/HMG. I also had full upgrades at this point. Well now none of my troops could even get out of the base so I knew it was game. (They still did not have 3 hives)

So whats the problem here. I thought I did everything right, I don't know what else I could have done (except maybe taking that hive, but then never got it either). Is it just that my team sucked or that you HAVE to rush 2 hives? (god I hate rushing 2 hives, IMO thats not the way NS was supposed to be played).

Anyway I really need some help here I don't know what I'm doing wrong. (This has happened other times before)

Did they have welders and know to use them? HA/HMG without welders to back it up (at least 2) is just slow death, last night i killed 4 HMG/HA's as a one hive lerk by just slowly whittling them down with spikes and falling back to heal wash rinse repeat because they had no welders to repair damage. Best is when you have a group of about 4 or so, and at least 2 of them have welders and use them pretty much constantly. Other two have an HMG and a Grenade Launchah

Give a guy a welder, and go the back way into archiving.

also, I notice few players know how to fight fade's..

DONT LET THEM RUN AWAY, CHASE THEM DOWN!!!!

If you do go after them to kill them, and they get away to heal, all you did was waste ammo on him.

If marines with 1/2 upgrades cant kill fades with lmg, HA/HMG wont help. Umbra+fades own HMG/HA it's not funny. Save the $$ on HA and get another armor upgrade (until 2/2), and mix in launchers with your HMG's.

To me, 4 nodes means you can afford upgrades/weapons, 5 nodes means prototype lab/HA/JP's. There is only 9 nodes on hera, , use a phase rush to grab more nodes, and make your marines hang around at them, get upgrades fast, then get proper defenses.

Your troops may have been decked out with welders and full armor upgrades, but they actually have to USE them to be effective. Plus, just because they're fully loaded on equipment doesn't mean you can ignore them. If this was on a 1.03 server, you can still spam scanner sweeps to see what's lying around the corner. You still have to drop health for them as well. I was in full armor one game, but only had 5 health left, and the commander didn't drop any health packs for me - one skulk bite, I'm out.

And as captmorgan pointed out, having a jetpacker with a shotgun and welder move in through the vents while their main force is busy fighting your HMG/HA squad can be extremely effective.

I've been on the grunt end of that having to constantly scream at my allies "WELD ME WELD ME WELD ME AHHHH I'M DYING *SPLAT*"

It's very frustrating. However, on the alien side, it isn't invincible even with good guys. It takes a lot of power, a lot of fades, and umbras at their feet to do it. If that starts happening, just say over voice comm (you have it, right?) to just whip out the welders, weld yourselves and the aliens both, and spam medpacks on them. Otherwise they'll fall pretty fast. If an alien team throws everything they have at a group of heavies, they can be killed. If it looks like that's in their future, get them to build a phase gate and get the lights to come with them with a couple extra welders so the hmgs have more time to fire and less to weld. Besides, the lights can kamakaze and not worry about losing anything and soak up damage coming to the heavies...though honestly with 3/3 I don't know how they died unless they just weren't welding or didn't have nades to fight umbra.

The other thing, which I've made the mistake of doing before as comm, is having them set up buildngs or wait in an area that looking back on it, was so cramped as to be a deathtrap against acid rockets. I doubt that happened on hera but in general, get your guys out of areas that you normally would hate to be stuck in as a grunt as soon as possible.
