    Click on 'your control panel' at the top, head over to 'personal info' and then 'avatar options'. There you can enter the URL of your avatar, wherever you uploaded it!

    Yeah, just link it to the direct pic from a website, and it will work.  Auto-resizes it too!

    ok, find the pic you want, right click on it, go to properties, and it will give you a DIRECT link to the pic, just take that and put it in your avatar <!--emo&:D--><img src="http://www.natural-selection.org/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/biggrin.gif" border="0" valign="absmiddle" alt=':D'><!--endemo-->

    <!--QuoteBegin--></span><table border="0" align="center" width="95%" cellpadding="3" cellspacing="1"><tr><td><b>Quote</b> </td></tr><tr><td id="QUOTE"><!--QuoteEBegin-->
    You may enter a URL to choose an avatar that is on your own website. The URL MUST begin with http://
    You may enter the width and height of your avatar. Please note that any value over the maximum allowed size in pixels will be resized to the maximum size. Leaving them blank will resize the image to the maxiumum size.
    <!--QuoteEnd--></td></tr></table><span id='postcolor'><!--QuoteEEnd-->

    Now, first thing you need to do is find a picture.  We will use <a href="http://www.readyroom.org/ns_models/post-1-54486-pudgy_8x6.jpg" target="_blank">Pudgy here</a> for this example.  He can be found at the <a href="http://www.readyroom.org" target="_blank">Ready Room</a>.

    To find the url of pictures, sometimes you can look in the address bar, other times you need to right click on the picture and goto properties.  about half way down it says "Address(URL):" thats the line you need.

    Pudgy's url address is <a href="http://www.readyroom.org/ns_models/post-1-54486-pudgy_8x6.jpg" target="_blank">http://www.readyroom.org/ns_models/post-1-54486-pudgy_8x6.jpg</a>

    So, we take that address and put it in the line where it says
    <!--QuoteBegin--></span><table border="0" align="center" width="95%" cellpadding="3" cellspacing="1"><tr><td><b>Quote</b> </td></tr><tr><td id="QUOTE"><!--QuoteEBegin-->
    Your avatar
    The following file types are allowed:
    .gif .jpeg .jpg
    <!--QuoteEnd--></td></tr></table><span id='postcolor'><!--QuoteEEnd-->

    In the avatar dimensions, you can leave them blank or you can enter 64 and 64.  You want the avatar to be the maximum size in most cases.

    Click Add my own image as my avatar.

    Now, I really suggest uploading your own picture and not using one you found somewhere.  Why?  Well, because you will be stealing bandwidth from who ever that picture belongs to.

    Anyway, good luck - hope I helped.

    Oh no no no... What you'd want to do for a file like that is save it to your computer, resize it yourself, and upload it somewhere else.

    Linking to a file of that size on someone elses site for something as small as the avatar is is considered rude. It sucks bandwidth like crazy. Plus it'll load a TON slower compared to you resizing it and uploading it to somewhere like <a href="http://www.homestead.com" target="_blank">www.homestead.com</a>

    ah, yes.

    Thats what I was trying to say by this comment
    <!--QuoteBegin--></span><table border="0" align="center" width="95%" cellpadding="3" cellspacing="1"><tr><td><b>Quote</b> </td></tr><tr><td id="QUOTE"><!--QuoteEBegin-->Now, I really suggest uploading your own picture and not using one you found somewhere.  Why?  Well, because you will be stealing bandwidth from who ever that picture belongs to.

    Sorry if it did not convey the point well enough.  The use of pudgy was mearly an example and in no way was I suggesting he use it.

    In retrospect, I should have mentioned that you <b>should</b> use small pitures.
