I see where you're coming from got to have the last word do you? Well I won't let you tehe <!--emo&:p--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/tounge.gif' border='0' valign='absmiddle' alt='tounge.gif'><!--endemo--> You haven't added anything to this discussion that you've come up with yourself. (probably cause you lack any mental capacity to come up with anything of your own) No you didn't literally cut and paste your inflamatory comments instead you "borrowed" them from other similarly narrow minded people.

Just because 90% of people like the game doesn't mean I have to, it's all of a sudden wrong to have an oppinion is it?

I like games that offer some replayability and the fact is that without it's mods HL offers next to 0% replayability. It's multiplayer aspect was far worse than other games out at the time if you don't consider TFC, wich was released at a much later date.

Anyway this whole thread is off topic.

And by the way i think HL could survive with out CS. DoD is quite popular with what now 500-1000 servers? And NS is getting popular with its what is it now 500 servers?

Sure if you took cs away HL would definetly decline and it would probably speed up its Half-life (Get it? Halflife?!?! heheh wink wink)

Ok yeah enough bad jokes. im tired.<!--QuoteEnd--></td></tr></table><span class='postcolor'><!--QuoteEEnd-->
uhm.. lol CS has at the very least 30.000 servers hardly comparable <!--emo&:)--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/smile.gif' border='0' valign='absmiddle' alt='smile.gif'><!--endemo-->

1: It got it's rating for the singleplayer. It lost points for the multiplayer.
2: There are mods that are great for it, so it does have great replay value.
3: Single player often doesn't have a lot of replay value. You can't judge a game like hl on single player replay for the fact alone it does have multiplayer. Why would you keep playing single player when there is multiplayer. However, I think it does have replay. There is 2 different types of endings for the game. Also, I think Gman is interesting enough to play it over again. Never know what that guy might do next time... heh.
4: Yes, you can have an opinion. Just make better note it is your opinion, so everyone makes note not to read. : ) ... just kidding.

Get the 3-D stereographic driver from Nvidia, and play Half Life single player in 3-D, and then tell me that the beginning sequence is boring.

Well i was hardly trying to compare them, what i was trying to say is that most games dont even have 1000 servers if that, while halflifes minor mods do. If you add every one of HL mods (minus CS) you would probably come up with some 3000 or so. The fact that this is more than 90% of the market means that halflife would still be alive. And maybe this would actually put some preasure on valve to update thier decaying engine.

Could you hook up with a link to that driver? : )

I think Razor and I are entitled to talk about how we feel. And we ARE on topic. We were talking about if half-life had it's day. And tried to say it never had it's day basically, I disagreed. Where were either of us off topic. You on the other hand said nothing on topic.

at the time i am writing this (11:52pm AWST) australia and new zealand has 540 dedicated HL servers (and all its mods) alone. now that is something.

we are talking (if ur stats are correct) upto 50% of other games total server ammount in 1 country (and not a ver populated one either). most isp's in perths metro area have at least 3:1 ratio of hl/mods - other games

scan just completed, there are about 6000 people playing hl and mods in aus right now. and its almost midnight for me, 3am for the other side of aus

HL engine = modified Q1 engine
You guys give too much to people. Half-life is a pile of bought garbage with some intellegent people who chose it for thier mod. If counter-strike had not been created, the game would have blead to death within 6 months of it's life. When CS came out, halflife was on a stretcher getting electicity pumped through it's body. CS got its heart going, and the only reason NS is around is because of CS. This games popularity relies upon on it's mods alone. Oh, and trust me, it's not halflife that makes these mods great. What did it have over... even quake 2? (no, not voice communication... even HL was missing that until the CS devs put it in).

You guys should be giving all your props to the guys at counter strike for making such a great mod out of such a huge pile of dung, not valve.

And to you guys bashing quake 3, I would say the main reason quake 3 isn't all that great, is because no one has ever bothered to put the time into a mod like they have for half-life. The most popular mod for Q3 is probably RA3, and it's barely even a mod of the game. Quake3 is something that your average person cannot get into, because of the amount of talent it takes to play. I myself cannot play the game well, and I've played Q2 and Q3 for a while. CS on the other hand can be played, and understood in under a day of messing around and getting your **obscenity** kicked. It's only a matter of mastering the game, and becoming *really* good.

I didn't have time to read this over... so I hope it's not too bad.

I would just like to add that the HL statistics you see on Gamespy are calculated by people who actually use Gamespy to connect to their games. I'm sure if you used the 'in-game' connection system there would be more players.

So these people are just bashing it for the sake of it being old. Who cares? Gameplay > Graphics

The HL single player intro is incredibly annoying. Not the first time (actually gets you in the mood), but do you know a way of getting past it (without cheats or downloading savegames) when you play it again? Non-interactive intro that sets the mood: good. Non-interactive intro that can't be skipped: baaaad!

Other than that, I wouldn't call HL exceptional. Big levels, but not truly special, often highly linear. Some things are just tedious (the alien levels, jumping puzzles, huge almost invincible alien bosses).

One thing that did impress me in the game, that's exceptionally good, is the AI of the commandos when they work as a team.

As a mod platform, it has one thing going for it: huge amount of people who have it. But technically it's lacking. Search around on the boards, and you'll find statements that NS comes really close to (or sits right on) some hard limits in the engine. I don't think there will be bigger maps for NS simply because there is no room for expansion. The low hardware requirements of HL probably aren't an advantage for NS, as the requirements for NS are quite a bit higher and it may have benefited from an engine that was actually intended for the size of map NS uses.

Yeah thats exactly what were doing.

How about you read the whole thread next time before you open your shite hole, instead of just skipping to page three and reading the last few posts.
