<div class="IPBDescription">Shedding RTS stupidness...</div> eh there,
RTS and I don't get a long. So telling people what to do and building, just wasn't my thing. I'm a damn fine soldier, but when it comes to commanding I suck. Well atleast till recently. I only know a few maps to be effective, so I choose my battles carefully.
I'm not big on map names, but I was commanding on the map with Feedwater hive, (atmospheric pressure room). It started as a small game 3 on 3 and the soldiers didn't mind if I started to learn commander. So we battled back and forth until they aliens secured 3 hives. As it turns out I had lvl 3 armor/guns with hvy armor and hwg/gls in plenty. The game was getting good when I -really- looked at the map, it was all red and there was tons of green. Turns out I was commanding my first full game (12on12) and I kept up. We were actually turning away the onos and I was going to mount up 3 players with jetpacks to drop the "close" hive. So with base secure (more or less), I went to drop a few more supplies and ready the troops.....
And that's where I timed out!
Anys I took a lot of with me. I learned I could actually have a chance shedding my RTS stupidiness. I ended up playing on Eclipse (8on8)yesterday, commanded a small regiment of players. The aliens got up 2 hives, we secured one, then lost it. Dropped thier first hive, secured it, pressed on, upgrading. Took a second hive with a hell of a battle, but by this time they had the orginal hive we lost up. We were setting up for a final charge to win the game and the game hit a time limit! We had the telepad, TF, turrents and siegs in place. The battle was pretty much won and I count it as my first win. I stayed away from the commander chair till the end of this month and I still stay away if someone knows what they are doing.
After waiting, learning, and reading, I finally feel confident at the helm. Some of the guys that helped my out were "HeartAttack Harry" and "D". Without their keen teamwork I don't think the team would have won. So yeah, that my "new commander rave."
cheers,
dh
